My stock 6 disk changer worked perfectly but I installed an alpine ipod ready deck and now my radio only works when I am parked. When I drive i get static in it. All I did was unplug the antenna from the old head unit and plug it into this new alpine unit. Question is do I have a compatibility problem or do you think the new alpine unit is bad? I would think that it is the alpine and not my car. Model is Alpine CDE-9852
My '04 REX has an mp3/xm ready pioneer deck installed in it as well supposedly with the antenna plugged in and everything... I get the same issues but only on the AM stations! I love my KFAN but now am relagated to ESPN radio and Fox sports radio!!! I want my sports talk! I had it looked at from the Best Buy crew and they said that sometimes cars with antennas built into the windows have issues with aftermarket decks... The only thing they said that could help would be an external antenna to hook up to the window.. Hence the fact that I had to get xm!!! (didn't HAVE too, but of course wanted to) Good luck, maybe someone else has some advice!
that is exactly your problem! The stock deck is meant to get good reseption with the antenna! i know it sound weird but thats how it is! When a car has the antenna on the window they suck! there isn't much you can do but get xm or just listen to your ipod! sorry! i installed an pioneer deck in a guys mazda same thing! i sold him the ipod piece and he said thats what he was mainly going to use it for! but he just coulnd't handle that the regular radio stations didn't work!
Is it wired correctly? i think that the Deck has to provide the antenna with +5VDC (the blue "power on" wire that is mostly used for amps) to turn on the built in antenna booster.
No it should work something is wrong. I go over your wiring again, make sure you check the antenna wire it's blue and says antenna on it. I'd also chek you ground wire, maybe try and ground it differently to check it out.
You should always have the Power antenna lead (blue wire marked antenna) hooked up to your deck just in case, like shane86 said there may be a booster, Otherwise you may want to try either a stronger ground point or a noise blocker. -Josh
I'll go over my wiring...this shouldn't be too hard, I just didnt want to rip my dash apart. I understand why I would need to do that though, seems that the antenna in this car is powered by the head unit and not somewhere else in the car. Thanks for your help guys.
Problem fixed!!! I guess when I was solding all the connections together I thought "power antenna wire" was for cars with the retracting antenna motor. Radio works like a charm now.
