do rally cars like this have to clutch when shifting? seems to me like he doesn't use it in this video. or is colin just that good? the in car starts around 25 sec
Or even in the USA you can get a dogbox and shift clutchless. Most WRC teams run sequential boxes with hydraulic actuation, but the Subaru WRC cars actually used an H-pattern transmission with a very trick (and very expensive) hydraulic shifting sytem.
that would be an old WRX impreza. Those weren't hydro actuated at all, just dog-engagement h-pattern boxes.
I don't use the clutch 100% of the time in my car when driving. If you want to drive a dogbox then you better start getting good at that. Or lose some teeth...
I really don't use the clutch much at all when autocrossing, but that tiny little bit of time between shifts or when I miss a gear (or break the teeth off) seems like an eternity on an autoX course. It wouldn't be for a street car. :biggrin:
