Just wondering….I noticed by taking the ram air scoop off the car feels a bit less restricted, meaning I can hear the air being sucked in better and the car seems to have a tad more get up and go. Am I nuts, or has anyone else experienced this? While the RAM was on the car I didn’t feel the air flow so much when I would put my hand over the inlet while the car was being reved. I can clearly feel and hear the air being sucked in the elbow when I put my hand near it. I’m currently running with a K&N drop-in filter and GP Moto Silencer Delete elbow….car is cobb stage 2 Is the RAM scoop restrictive when the hood is down? Do I run the risk of any harmful side effects without it? (besides a bigger hole maybe sucking in the occasional mouse or whatever else that might want to call it home.) It can’t mess with the MAF sensor since that’s after the filter, correct? Thoughts?
when i did the snorkus delete mod, i found the car 'felt' better with the ram air section intact. after i went with the cai, i bought an rs plug for the hole and capped it.
My buddy with a 04 wagon just took his off and he swares his car seems like it pulls harder. I have been thinking about doing it but I really dont wanna start ****ing with **** yet. Is there any harm that can come out of taking of the ram-air?
Is is better to have the air come from inside the engine compartment or fender well? I understand the engine compartment is going to be warmer air, but less likely to suck in water....what do you guys think?
You can find Dyno comparisons of people who have done that to stock cars if you look around on NASIOC. It doesn't make much difference to a stock car. Don't know about what happens with the greater air flow of stage two. I know you car hear a lot more turbo noises with no intake silencer, which is fun.
ideally sucking air from the cowl area would be the way to go, or high on the fender behind the wheel. I beleive the cold air intakes are taking air out of the fender in front of the wheel which probqably has about the same likelyhood of water intake as the stock "ram". I would cirtainly shy away from any intake that was just taking in engine compartment air because of heat and water. A popular mod for Wranglers is to go to an electric fan for water situations, so is might seem that water might be in the engine compartment.
Does anyone know if there's a grill like this one made for the 04/05 body style? The RAM seems very restrictive. When the hood is down it looks like the only place it can suck air from would be the grill. It seems there's really no clearance at the front of the RAM between the opening and the hood. So the air has to come into the grill, take a 90 degree turn up two inches, and then squeeze into the RAM. I would suspect this makes the air flow very turbulent and slows down the flow. A grill like this one would do the trick.
