not really a subaru question but what does everyone think about aftermarket turbo brands, are there some that are great and others that are not that good. im asking because im shopping for a turbo kit for my mustang and there are many different brands out there, im just wondering what is really different between them do the brands really matter that much, some kits are 3.5k others go as high as 8k, (all are full kits, with basic same parts just brand difference really)

if this is the wrong area please move post

Garrett and Bloch turbos always been good in quality. BorgWarner are making some good stuff right now but not sure if they offer any kits. I always liked HKS turbos but they are not cheap. Stay away from ebay and Greddy turbos.

Ive had great luck with ebay turbos, but there are SO many bad ones out there than I wouldnt recommend them, but Im impressed with my garret knockoff 60 trim so far.

Ebay turbos are hit and miss. I know a lot of ebay GT25-28 series turbos are used with good success, but I would not buy it for a nice car.

no im looking at like turbonetics or garret (non ebay). those are the main brands used when it comes to the kits. i have not seen if there is a good bloch turbo for it yet. im thinking about going with the turbonetics kit but i dont know anyone who has experience with those turbos (and most mustang guys run SC not turbo)

Several of the "Brands" you've list are based on Garrett turbochargers. Companies like Precision, Turbonetics, etc modify OEM turbochargers with their own wheels, housings, and questionable ball bearing cartridges.

More importantly, you should be concerned with the specifications of the turbochargers and whether or not they are a good fit for your engine and power goals. If you can't get a compressor map for the turbos in question, I wouldn't waste my time with them. You could buy the most expensive kit and still have it perform poorly if the system was not optimized for your application.

So, you're asking us to do your homework for you? Only you can answer the hard questions I asked. "Brands" are somewhat trivial. Figure out what you want to do with your system, and you will receive more precise responses.

Name a power goal, then an engine displacement and you are halfway there. Based on your posts, I can't tell if you want to make 600 hp or 1200 hp. That is what really matters, the airflow you are trying to achieve. Help me help you.

BTW, if you haven't read this, you are wasting my time. Read sections 1, 2, and 3, then reply back. The turbo optimization is also worth your time. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/tech_center/turbo_tech101.html
