Here it goes folks... Am I the only one out there that thinks MNDOT has gotten a bit lazy?? What happened to plowing the snow?? They seem inclined, now, to just pour chemicals/salt on the roads to melt the snow. We got a dusting of snow overnight and this morning the roads are wet as hell and full of that lovely car cancer causing stuff. Did anyone else have brake trouble this morning due to freezing water/ice build up?? WTF MNDOT! We can't have anything nice in MN. Sorry if there is another thread like this already. I had to vent.
I don't see how plowing a half inch of snow is going to do anything other than wear out equipment. I would rather have wet roads than be run into by the 90 percent of the motoring public that have minimal driving skills to handle any sort of slippery conditions and 50 percent of those ass-clowns (the 90%) who run substandard equipment (worn out tires, burned out bulbs, rust buckets that shed parts as they run down the road, etc). And MNDOT and the city where I live do a commendable job on snow and ice removal in my humble opinion.
yeah road salt sucks. but until I can get 1gb/sec download/upload speeds at home I still have to survive the drive to work.
I see your point there. Wet roads still pose quite a hazard, especially when the temp is so low. The mist created by traffic forms ice very quickly when it lands. I traveled 494 this morning for a short distance and found my brake capacity was reduced significantly when I went to exit. If everyone drove a Subaru (and knew how), I guess we wouldn't need to plow or salt so often!
My car lightly pulses the brakes every so often to keep them dry and free of ice/water. Get a better car lol
All of the time when the car is in motion or does it sense what the weather is doing or if the road is wet?
Subarus are definitely not invincible for stopping on slick surfaces, ask me how I know. No matter what, with quality equipment or not, it comes down to the driver.. You should use your brakes more to avoid them getting Icey.
quality and speed of snow removal definitely varies greatly by city and county. In my home town of Red Wing, I was used to having our residential street plowed right away after a storm, if not multiple times during the snow storm. And our neighborhood wasn't right in town either. Now living in the city (Minneapolis) and various suburbs...snow removal takes hours, if not days. And heck, there is snow cover on the city street for the majority of the time in the winter. My snow tires help me more getting in and out of my alley than any other streets/highways.
Agreed. MNDOT, and more specifically, the folks employed to keep our streets clean and reasonably safe are tasked with an uphill battle. They're doing a fine job and I'm grateful for the service they provide. Pouring salt solutions on the roads still require employees to drive up and down every major roadway while the rest of us sleep. So, I'm not understanding the "lazy" part of the rant. Also, what's the alternative? Weather control? Paging @Mr.Tran
It only does it when the auto wipers sense rain. Pretty clever. You you need a better car too Do you drive the audi in the winter?
I've never had a problem with the brakes icing in any of my cars. Even though none of them are considered high end. Sounds like BMW is just band-aiding a poorly designed brake system with a "feature".
Totally How does the jelly taste? It's not like you have had to "band-aid" anything in your fxt...like your blown engine, transmission, and something about brembo brakes?
So what you are saying, is that subarus break a lot? Tell us something else we didn't know.. Do they also require some sort of fuel to power us down the road?
Oh jeez. You got butt hurt over that? Yes, I blew the 4eat in my FXT. The brembo swap was done because I don't want hybrid axles with the 6spd swap. I did pull the threads on a caliper mounting bolt. As far as I know, my engine is fine? But anyways, sorry my bad. BMWs have high tech brakes that "de-ices" itself because it is quality.
I think I have been hanging out on facebook too much. Also I have a broken subaru at the moment so I have some self loathing going on lol.
