I have two Motorola Black Razr V3 that needs the lastest firmware update. Would some feedback from the phone experts how to go about it. I found that going to a local phone shop is one option or trying to do it yourself is another. I am new to cell phones and would much appreciate some INPUT! LOL Thanks
New to cell phone?!?! That's hard to believe. I thought I was the most hardcore anti-cell phone around when I was 23 w/o a cell phone by choice. What provider does your RAZR phones belong to? I know nothing about "updating" cellphones but I know that you can just slide in the memory chip and you can use any phone as long as that chip is active with a phone plan. If all else fails, go check out the cellphone provider's website and check the FAQ.
I just found out my co-worker knows how to update the firmware along with making a few configuration changes. My first cell phone was last year. Hope this will help others. I wanted the video camera feature on my Razr and now I'll get it. lol http://www.motox.info/ http://www.planetmotox.net/
Phone It really depends which carrier you have. Different phone providers have different programming. You said you have a ravr. what version razr? There's The C and the new m. Verizon is cdm and sprint is cdm and cingular and t-mobile is gsm. Verizon's Rarz runs on that high speed cdm network that they call v-cast. if you have verizon they will update the phone for free. The best program i seen to flash phone is a program called qpst. But they program runs only a qualcomm chipset. I know motorola has thier own flasher program that you can get off thier website and it was free last time i checked. Before you update i would see what features you are getting and what you are giving up. In other words they might be locking out a feature that might be useful in the feature. Like for example using your phone as modem on your laptop. Normally when they do flash upgrades they giving you something and taking something away..... In case you haven't figured it out i'm a verizon customer
all major carriers will perform frmware updates in their retail stored for free. Most of the time they're embarassed that they sold you an old ver of the firmware anyways. I work with nextel and verizon and this is true for other partners as well.
cingular does not provide firmware updates in there corporate stores, world of wireless and entronix (rogers) are both repair vendors that will sometimes update firmware
yeah, i've worked for verizon, tmobile, and now at cingular and have never had firmware update software in the store. Its a very common misbelief that it is carried and used in corporate stores. I don't know where these misconceptions came from. We simply supply a service to use the phones, we don't manufacture or produce the hardware. Go on motorola's site and they do have free software there as others have mentioned.
Well, i've worked with nextel and verizon and we have guys load new firmware all the time at stores. It's never been a problem for us i guess. In fact I just called NDSS and they confirmed that nextel/sprint does this. Verizon does only in cetain circumstances.
why are you needing to upgrade the firmware, what is it going to do diffrently for you then the current firmware has.
probably the video camera capability. early razr couldn't take video, only pics. Later razrs can do both.
