I just got back from a longish drive (Plymouth --> Jordan --> New Ulm --> Hutchinson --> Cokato --> Plymouth) and drove some of the roads I learned to drive on around Cokato.

There is a back road between Hutchinson and Cokato that we called 'Bear Lake Road'. It is relatively empty (I saw no cars tonight) and full of 25, 35, and 45mph corners with some decent inclines and declines. I last drove it in my 1991 Grand Am when I thought it was a fast car that handled well. Tonight I took the same route (North from Hutch to Cokato) in the Silver car with winter tires... let's just say that in the next few weeks when it warms up I'm going back with my summer tires on. Even with the winter tires I was able to go MUCH faster than the posted speed limits and still stay in my lane without making my traction control light go blinky blinky.

    Here is the link.

Post up some of your favorite backwoods roads with links so I can try out some other cool drives.

Nice. I still swear by 16 West from LAX, WI to Spring Valley, MN.

Ones free of the cops that would be attracted by me posting here.
    Ask me in person :)

I'm not too worried about cops being attracted to a road that runs from the middle of nowhere to a little further from the middle of nowhere.

Now, if this was a thread saying, "Yo yo yo mnsubitches les get da cars out an go fo a cruuuuz!" I could see your concern.

    But it's not.

Yes, and about twice a week someone posts a thread about their new and/or painted rims and tires. I fail to see your point.

Unfortunatly, the last road I posted now has cops on it. :(
The problem is that there's lots of lurkers and such who fiind these threads. And then do things like go 120 next to the only house on the road 20 times. And then there's a county sherriff running radar on the road next time.

That said I love sharing roads with others. You want to go for a drive we can do that too. I just like to select them.

    In general though, alphabet roads.

    Alphabet roads for sure.

Wright and Meeker counties are full of fun, paved, relatively unpopulated roads and it's an hour drive to get out there. There are also LOTS of dirt/gravel roads. I've ridden bike on most of the back roads from Annandale to Cokato to Dassel, to Hutchinson and it's really fun to go back there and drive them in my car.

Let the cops come to my favorite place to take my Subarus: Carlos-Avery Wildlife Refuge. I've taken all three of mine out there to slide around on the unpaved roads. However the blind corners are a bit dangerous so I used to have a friend run sweep ahead. You could go in pairs and take turns. Last time I was there it didn't have posted speed limits so you can really only get in trouble for careless/wreckless but if you have a zero car then I doubt it'd be an issue. Just try not to go during any hunting seasons as the place does tend to get crowded.

Are we including other states? Aside from the great county roads in the moraine area of WI that we sometimes run as a group my favorite roads in the Midwest are up in da UP of Michigan. If you ever go up to Houghton for the race (or otherwise) you have to take the US41/M26 loop up around Brockway. In fact you may need to take it twice as the first time you may want to spend your time looking at the scenery, stopping for a picnic, and picking up hand-made jams at the monastery.

This is a speed limit on an unsigned road.

Meh, I'm familiar with Chapter 169 of the MN Statutes, I've had plenty of conversations with my congressman (and congresswoman before that) about it and other automotive-related statutes. Complaining to your representative is one of the few legal activities you can do (that don't cost money) to try to initiate change in a law you don't find fair. It also opened my eyes on some things I had never considered.

And per the statute you posted the unmarked road on an uninhabited stretch would be 55mph and you'd need some good gravel tires to reach those speeds safely on most any stretch in Carlos Avery. However since "spirited driving" on those roads could easily be construed as wanton disregard for safety I'm certain one could be ticketed for reckless driving (169.13 Subd 1a).

I was just responding to the notion that no sign=no speed limit.
This is more commonly held misinformation than you'd think.

My goal is to see none of you in a professional capacity.
Misinformation is a leading reason why I do. Well that and ****ty radar detectors (I gave the only MN subaru member I've seen in court radar detector advice :) )
