I have an 03 WRX wagon, I noticed lately that the rear camber is noticably different from side to side. I took a straight edge and a level and measered and the drivers side has about an inch of negitive and the passenger side is almost level. Now I know that there is no ajustment for camber in the rear, so is something broke or bent? What should I look for and or where should I take it? I'm planing on getting springs but want to get this figured out first.n Thanks for any help.
That's where is was going to go for an alignment, I guess what I want to know is what parts on the rear could cause there to be a difference? Would like it fixed if there is something wrong.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with that problem. My 02WRx sedan is the same. My rear driver side is way different from the passenger side. Driver side is so tilted and passenger side is soo straight up, weird. And you're right, its like almost an inch different. I had new rear camber bolts but it didn't even help. So I too is also wondering whats wrong or is this normal? It drives fine and straight though.
Mine drives fine also, no abnormal tire wear either. I also called Walser Subaru and got the "we will have to take a look at it" speech, at $149 thats an exspensive look!?!?
Called him, told me not to buy bolts he doesn't like them. I'm going to go under the care tonight and take a look at everything and measure all the arms to see if anything is bent, then go from there.
Aren't the factory alignment tolerances for rear camber somewhere in the -0.5 to -1.5 degrees range? From what I've noticed, mis-matched rear camber (from the factory) is very common on these cars. Definitely bring it in for an alignment, but unless you are autoxing or tracking the car, you don't really need perfectly matched rear camber specs... Hell, even if you are autoxing/tracking, they don't have to be perfect considering there's gonna be a million other factors effecting your dynamic camber curve. I'm sure Jeff will use a camber bag on one of the rear struts if he finds it necessary. Otherwise (assuming you don't have a bent strut or something), he'll probably recommend getting adjustable rear lateral links or camber adjustable top hats (rear camber plates)... or you could slot the struts too. For his sake, I'm glad to hear he's turning down bolts... some of them can be a real pain to get perfect... and he's certainly very detail oriented.
FWIW Jeff got my 07 WRX balanced just short of zero in the rear (but I really didn't have imbalance to begin with...). With an ALK and otherwise stock front suspension he got to ~-1.5d in the front. He's a cool guy that knows his shi+ and charges a fair price. He was very upfront about his disdain for camber bolts.
