Not sure if this is the right place to post this but: Anyone in town recently purchase an STi for less than invoice? If so which dealer and which tactics did you use.

If not which dealer did you buy from and why. I would rather hear the positives then have this turn into a dealer basing thread.

    Thanks.

I was searching in December on http://www.bestcarlocator.com/autos.php?search=sti and there was a local dealer in MN that listed a 05 STI for invoice price which is $28,900 in that neighborhood, I have my friend who use to sell cars contact his friends, he also happen to know the guy selling this particular STI. Thats the best I have found for brand spanking new!

    Good luck,

    C

Thanks for the link. Everything I have read and heard says that invoice right now is 30 plus advertizing and shipping. The options go up from there.

"Advertising" is a BS fee. Insist that they drop it when you buy.

The dealers and leasing companies will no longer be able to special order 05's as of march 31st. From what the salesman told me at the dealer, the Alpha Romeo STi '06's will be out in June. His words were " You will probably not like the new redesign" and from the pics I have seen, I agree. I am in no hurry although the 2.9% finance rate is tempting, I beleive waiting a few weeks will be to my advantage.

Salesmen are typically the last to know anything and the worst possible sources of news regarding Subaru models and availability.

From what I have read it doesn't sound like the body on the '06 will change but we'll never know until it gets here. The WRX will have the 2.5L engine.

Back to the topic, if anyone has had good luck when buying a STI in town please let us know which dealership and who you worked with.

Also the special interest rates on the Impreza expire on the 31st of this month. Not sure if it’s worth it to try and take advantage of that or wait till the '06 come out and then pick up a '05 for even cheaper.

Well, to answer your question, I got my 05 last month at Morrie's Brooklyn Park Subaru for $31900. It came with a short shifter, titanium shift knob (weight of it feels like steel), boost gauge, arm rest extension, the 120 watt sub system, and auto dimming mirror/compass. If you subtract that stuff from $31900, I guess I came pretty close to getting it for invoice.

Dealer quote "The 2006 doesn't come out until June. Plus the production on the STI is limited. Every dealer might only have 3-4 in there lots...After seeing the new re-designed STI I think you'll prefer the 2005 models. "

Sounded to me like he has seen similar things that we have.

Thanks for the info on the recent purchase, it helps to be armed.

Problem with that is the stealerships will tell you just about anything to move the '05's before the '06 get in cause they know they won't get as much or them after the new ones are in. That’s the feeling I get at least.

You could be correct and the mis-information. I am in no hurry, I can wait it out....I think.

Then again looking at The MN Auto Show thread.....it looks like the change may indeed be on it's way.

Hey...if it makes you feel any better :) the STI over here in Iceland has the 2.0 liter engine and costs 62000 dollars at the moment. They´re having a sale  and no, I´m not joking...! But they are fun to drive, very easy to do 2nd gear powerslides  so paying 30000 for a new 2.5 STI seems to be a pretty good deal.

hmmm well we go by liters over here so....it´s around 7 bucks for a gallon :) I´ll bet that makes you happy hehehe but things are expensive over here! But I make around 5000 a month and that´s after taxes so I get by OK :) most jobs pay ok but taxes are high...medical care is almost for free and going to college costs around 600 dollars per semester with books and everything. Going to a regular doctor is 11 dollars :) so it evens out a little...

Hey Rich it looks like you got your '05 STI. If you don't mind me asking where you went, who did you work with, and how much were you able to get the price down. I'm in the market and any help would be appreciated. Email me if you don't want to post it here, please. [email protected]

    Thanks,

    Mike

I worked with Dana Haagenson [[email protected]] at Morries. I basically purchased the unit at invoice. Made the mistake of test driving again, and decided not to wait to see what incentives might coem up next month. I got the 2.9% financing and they gave me a break on some extras. Base STi with SUBWOOFER/AMPLIFIER, TITANIUM SHIFT KNOB, 6M/T, TURBO BOOST GAUGE SHORT THROW SHIFTER, 6M/T, AUTO DIMMING MIRRIOR/COMPASS SECURITY SYSTEM UPGRADE KIT, STI and floor mats, all for invoice, about 32K. (I will check tonight and change the amount accordingly) At a reduced rate I had it undercoated to reduce road noise and the interior protected for the fabric warranty as I will be driving the kids around all the time. The service was great and they were patient with my many questions.

I didn't get the armrest extension but being taller I ordered one today online along with a few other minor things. I am not sure how soon or what mods I will be adding, the car is pretty amazing stock, although it replaces an old explorer and I have been driving a Town and Country as my daily driver. The STi rides a little rougher than the van, but I think it might be a little faster....

I also worked with Raymond So [email protected] at White Bear Subaru and he was just as helpful, it came down to who had what in stock in the end.

I have a friend with a leasing company who was willing to order me any car so I knew exactly what cost was. Morries matched it and White Bear was willing to as well.

Other than trying to stay close to the speed limits and staying under 4000 RPM's most of the time, the exspirence so far has been awsome.

If you have any questions, email me. I have the name of someone of the lists uncle who sells for BP Morries too.

    Thanks on the congrat's

I got too antsy before I contacted Yang's uncle. Guess I should have done that before my last test drive.

There is payment calculator at Subaru.com where you can enter the interest rate, down payment and or trade in. Then you can see how the numbers run.

I am out of town for the next few days. Talk next week.

it would sure be nice if there were a reliable place to find the factory holdback and the behind-the-scenes numbers that you can't find except through an employee or well-connected person. I'll have to talk to you Yia when I'm shopping for an STi if I can save up enough.
BIG congrats on the car scoobydreamin, look forward seeing it at the meets. I also worked with Dana on the wrx - he comes off as a bit aloof but seems like a nice enough guy.

I think salesman are a breed apart, they have to be. Dana was a little aloof, I actually ended up bargaining with the sales manager. Not a big deal, I went in educated.

As for beating on the car, it would suck to know that someone had, and yet it seems that the product can take it.
