Hey guys, I'm new the forums and just recently bought a '06 WRX TR that's completely stock right now. I've thought about what I want to do with it and I'd like to make it a sleeper. I'd like to get it up between 280-300 hp reasonably (it's 230 hp right now) and would like to know what parts people would recommend. Also, if people could recommend suspension and brakes, that'd be great too I'm basically new to the suby, so I don't have a good idea on what's good or not. Thanks!
That 230 hp is at the flywheel the 300 +- hp you see on other subys is at the wheels so you have a bit more to go than you may have expected. Turbo xs makes a stealth turbo back that is pretty good I think and some form of engine management would be a good start. cobb access port-600 or the utec is around 900 and some people are starting to use open ecu but I don't know a whole lot about it.
turbo back exhaust.. anything from a reputable company.. everyone has theyre own opinions cobb accessport stage 2 those should get u to like 285 crank HP
I have the Cobb AP and self made turbo back exhaust and I netted 212whp on the dyno dynamics dyno, which equates to around what Cobb Claims Stage 2 should be which is around the 280crank.... mine isnt loud (exhaust) and pulls pretty nicely... My vote would be AP (accessport) then DP, TBE and UP-pipe.. basically stage 2... and you would be real happy withthe performance and driveability and reliability...
well scrub the uppipe comment... unless they come with AP, DP catback form factory.... then scrub the rest cause it dont mean anything and i didnt know that cause I dont research or study Subarus.... I drive one, but I have more important things... thanks for the info it is nice to know...
It's somewhere around 20 - 22% For instance, stock STi's dyno around 220-230whp on the local mustang dyno. To make 300 whp, you'll need to be making nearly 400 crank hp. 280whp is a very reachable goal. An 18G would probably get you there.
you should benefit more per mod compared to a 2.0L WRX. So as stated, any thing that frees up the air flow would be good(Turboback exhaust) with the AP. that should land you over 200whp putting you at 240-280crank.
dont get a standard turboback. you want a sleeper. give up the 5-10whp and get a stealthback. MadDad and Turbo XS bothmake excellent ones. Esentially its a turboback that uses your stock axleback muffler section, so its quieter and looks stock from the back. If I end up with an 07 I'm going with the Turbo XS stealthback and an AP myself.
not really.... but for an extra 10hp maybe.... I dont and I would say I am stage 2 considering I made the same power and mine isnt a bellmouth...
yes, must get AP with turboback. you don't want it to be boost creeping with that 2.5L for a street car, i'd just get AP, 16G turbo with injectors, stealthback or TURBO BACK to axle section with a dumpvalve running with stock muffler. put some of that GT#%R in! the #%R!!!!! hahahha get it?
Power- full turbo back, cobb ap and a short shifter, dont really need a short shifter but most people are glad they get them brakes-stoptech stage 2 suspension-depends how much you want to spend, could spend alot of get coilovers or just a bit and get springs...
you WILL NOT get boost creep with the td04 on a 2.5 liter...my freind bob has been running my ERZ downpipe on his 06 tr for about 6 months...no boost creep whatsoever
It's my understanding that Cobb stage 2 only requires a high flow DP, you could leave the stock cat-back and just do the DP and AP stage 2.
I think cosmetically, i would get rid of the hood/scoop and get something like an aqua reverse hood scoop if i were considering going stealth.
Whats yr budget? Follow eperunit's advice on the exhaust + accessport. You could even go with a stock looking, and semi-stock sounding axleback/catback like the maddad whisper or the crucial one (if its out) or the prodrive. Stage 2 with the Accessport will put you near 300hp. Add a vf-39 to that and you should be around 280-300whp. As for looks, the wingless TRs already look like family sedans to the non-suby savvy. You could go with some 04/05 taillights to make it look more like a "normal sedan" as well. If you wanted to make it look like a 2.5i, get an aftermarket rim with a similar spoke pattern, throw some decent rubber on there, paint the calipers black, get rid of the wrx emblem in back, get a fmic + protune and slap on a 2.5i hood.
It isn't 2002 anymore.... the wrx is no longer a sleeper.:hsugh: The people that would have thought it was slow have already been burned...
a twinscroll gt40r setup in the fog light spot with a fmic, hydra, tgv deletes, foraged pistins and rods, reverse intake manafold, full coilovers at stock hight, electric cut out in your exhoust, ect........ u got one hell of a sleeper!
Haha, sounds like someone else's STi Looked at the photos and looks great. Hopefully you'll have it ready by the next fall fun run? I've decided on going with the Cobb AP Stage 2, but will the Turbo XS stealth exhaust be fine with that? Just curious as their stage 2 map says TBE required. Also, what about brakes to offset the new HP? Will stock do fine or should I get a new set? Thanks to everyone for all the recommendations and I'm keeping in mind the things people have listed
