I am in the process of putting in a remote start/security. I know where to find all the wires and everything i need, the problem i am running into is that for the viper 5701 is that i need to tap into a keyside starter wire, and a carside starter wire, and i am not sure which one is which. Anyone know where i can find both of these?
Well, the starter wire is the wire that gets hot (+12vdc) when you turn the key. You will have to cut that wire. Then the side that gets hot when you turn the key is the key side. 99% of the time it end up being a pretty visual thing and you don't really have to test for a 2nd time. Russ
If you have a manual, dont forget that you need to leave the car outta gear if you intend to use the remote start. My ex-gf had a 5speed cavalier with a remote starter, and crashed it into another car using it LoL....have fun explaining that to an insurance company
i figured it all out, didn't know i had to cut the starter wire, once i had that figured out, its going pretty smoothly. things like this remind me why i hate electrical.
i am most of the way through the install, and i have a problem, i hooked up everything but remote start, and now my parking lights and tail lights stay on, but when i press the brake, nothing happens, the brake lights do not light up. any guesses as to what the issue would be causing the car to do this?
