I'm in the same boat for the 4runner. Similar budget but lower. Looking for sd slot, usb, dvd, screen for a back-up camera.

I'll probably end up with either the p3200bt or the p4200dvd (I think you'll need an add on bluetooth device for the 4200, but I like the bigger screen and tilt).

edit: now that I'm looking again I might just go with the p3200dvd. At $250 I can do without bt lol

I liked the P3200 DVD (at least I think that's what I had in my WRX) a LOT. Great deck all around. I'd highly recommend.

Sorry to go a bit OT, but does anyone have a good set of instructions for how to dismantle the center console in a Land Cruiser ? We've got a 1997, and I've got a new HU, DIN pocket and harness to install in it, but I have *no* idea how to even start pulling it apart. It's extra annoying in light of the fact that I've swapped out the HU in the Impreza enough times that I can do it in a shade over 12mins. This job is now at 2yrs+ and still ticking :(

You're a lot further along than I am. I'm not to scared of the harness, but I have yet to actually get the center console surround off.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. I had high hopes for Toyota Nation, but got no joy there.

Played DVDs AND DIVX/XVID (both only on a cd/dvd, would not play them off the thumb drive) straight out of the box. Allowed custom backgrounds that you could upload from a thumb drive. My model didn't have Bluetooth, but it was an add-on option. I've seen it used and setup before, and its very simple with the touch-screen setup to get it connected.

I didn't wire it into the e-brake for the video, instead i put a rocker switch that would connect and then disconnect the wire from ground. Simply rocking the switch would allow dvds to play video on the screen.

I stopped using CDs or DVDs for music. The thumb drives are where its at.

Also, an iPod will plug into the USB port (with the apple cable) and play perfectly. You can select to control the iPod with the head unit, or with the iPod itself still. Very very nice.

My only complaint - large collections of music on a thumb drive (over 8gb) would take a fair amount of time to start playing. Still well under a minute with a full 16-GB drive.

the 3200dvd is around $250 but doesn't do bluetooth. You can get the add on for $125.

but if you need bt you might as well get the 3200bt for $310.

The only thing I didn't like about the 3200 series is the screen size. In the 4runner, it will be mounted low in the center console just behind the shifter, so I'll probably end up with the 7" screen on the 4200. The only thing I'm worried about is if the screen will contact the shifter when you tilt the screen all the way down to access the cd/dvd slot.

Amazon has the p5200bt for under $450. I'm not a big fan of flip up single din units (same reason why I don't really like the 7" screen... you have to tilt it to get to anything), but if that's what you're looking for, I'm sure it is very similar to the 4200 series.

avoiding tilting screens... less moving parts is more desirable...

Of the 3 screens I've had 2 were tilting. Never had a problem with either but clearance is an issue with the toyota unlike with the other cars. Tilt is a really nice feature when you have a really bad viewing angle like on the 4runner and the GD impreza (not as bad but still bad in certain light).

Stooo... should still be the same... get a smaller flat blade and go in near the top right corner and try to pop it a little... as it starts to move, move the flathead to the opposite side or further down...

That sounds like stellar advice. There are a couple of scratches on the top right corner that could well have been done with a screwdriver. Looks like I have a project for over the Xmas break.

    Cheers.
