Ok, so this is my first Subaru, so when I honked the horn I was a bit surprised at how weak it was. I have heard of people installing the Hellatones, but those sound like they are just a louder version of the stock ones. Are there any other options out there for a real horn?

And no, I am not installing a train horn, no matter how awesome it would be to make the guy in the Suburban spill his coffee when he tries to change lanes into me.

hellas are truly the best option for a loud but not obnoxious horn.... hence why people with great taste (subaru owners) install lots of them

I don't doubt the volume, the tone is just pretty weak.

If you're looking for something deeper, get a cadillac deville horn or 3. 3x3 = 9 horns.

And they'll still be quieter than 2 hellas.

The nice thing about the Hellas--they're a very directional tone.

Speaking of Hella's the body shop disconnected all my wires and left me to guess how it goes back together. Anyone remember?? I have two bare wires and a set of Hella's grounded ... LOL!!!

They offer a variety of tones with samples. Don't mind the playskool web design. I've ordered from them before... they're legit.

Otherwise, like Shibbs alluded to, find a horn you like and head to the junk yard.

06-07 Forester Horns are really loud for a stock horn, and they don't have the weak little "asian car" horn sound. They would be pretty much a direct fit without any wiring hassle.

I have a set of horns for ya to listen to, and they arent the cheap plastic ones either! The real deal. When I get them installed again Ill come to FS with them.

I also have the Hellas on my 02 WRX, loud enough to make people standing in front of the car jump!

Nice. They'll look great on the red, as well. Honestly, they don't sound incredibly loud from inside the car, but if you're standing in front of it (or somehow manage to set off your alarm in your garage...:(), they're deafening.

And just think of those of us with the 02's and 03's that have the alarm chirp through the horns instead of the keyless buzzer. I had to turn mine off, due to it being annoying when you locked or unlocked the doors... and I only have the stock horns!
