I have been having an issue with my 02 WRX this last weekend. Whenever I am accelerating, every time I push in the clutch to change gears, the engine revs up to a 1000 RPMs, holds it for a split second and either goes to idle (with the clutch still pushed in) or holds the higher rev for a split second more if I disengage the clutch after shifting into the next gear.

I have no idea what is causing the issue, but it is extremely infuriating and I am hoping it is not causing undo damage to the vehicle. Any info would be greatly helpful. Thanks.

What is the best way to clean an IAC valve, btw. I've been putting it off for quite some time. I think thats why my idle is crap. 200k miles and no cleaning on this bad boy.

We used TB cleaner on Silver03's 2.2l with the same issue. replaced the gasket too. still does it though, but not as bad.

TB cleaner? As in throttle body cleaner? I was thinking I'd spray the hell out if it with carb cleaner. I do get a fair amount of exhaust reversion with these cams.

Well I finally cleaned my iac today. It was much much easier than I expected. I used a impact screwdriver (5 bucks at Menards), a ton of wd40, and put a new gasket and screws on. So far, it seems to work alright. No leaks that I could tell.
