Driving across Iowa, Nebraska, and eastern Colorado has been the worst 12 hours of my life on several occasions. It sucks in the winter even if the weather's good. I don't think you can go up Pike's Peak in the winter, maybe on the train.

On a side note, a friend and I drove from his parents house in Des Moines to Vail in 8 hours (9pm-5am) once in college. That's an average speed including the stops of around 95mph. I still don't know how we managed that. I was driving with the Maxima's cruise control set to its maximum speed of somewhere around 95 mpst of the time and he was pretty much driving with his foot on the floor.

    Chris,

I've done the MN - CO thing about 10 times. Literally. I put roughly 15k miles on the M5 since last November just doing that drive.

Pikes Peak is closed for the winter. However there are lots of cool things to do out there. Take I-70 out west from Denver, swing past Vail, take the highway south to Leadville and then swing around back north and hook back up with I-70. It's a GORGEOUS drive. Plus you'll get to go past Vail, Keystone, Copper, and a bunch of other ski places.

I'm flying out to Denver to go skiing the weekend of the 4-7th and if you guys wanted to come out and hang with the awdpirates.net crew you could try to set something up.

Post a thread over in the Community forum on awdpirates.net and tell them your ideas. You'll get a huge response and I bet that there would be a number of folks willing to link up for a meet/skiing/whatever.

I already have my weekend pretty full (fly in Friday, party Friday night, Ski Saturday, party Saturday night, chill Sunday, fly home Monday) but there are a lot of members out there to hang out with and they are a friendly, laid back crew.

    Have fun.
