Rotor change HELP!

    I need to change my Rotors and might need help. Before i dig in and taking everything apart I want to know how to take off the Rotors. Havn't try the front but tried the Rears and looked confusing. Calipers/pads are easy.

    Want to know how to take off the Rotors. 02 WRX sedan

    i'm pretty sure they just slide off once you get the calipers off havent checked though

    Tried that already. Not sure if it'll work but I havn't try hitting it with something very hard. Dont wanna break anything but yea I did tried pulling it out.

    If you have the caliper off the rotor should just slide right off. Try tapping it with a rubber mallet a few times to break it loose from the hub.

    ^^ a rubber mallet works best i think. Biker boy did mine once by screwing something in for it to come out

    Use the two threaded holes in the rotor. Thread in two bolts a little bit at a time till the rotor breaks free.

    if you do use a hammer do not hit super hard as you e-brake assambly is behind it. I woul suggest using the 2 wholes that you see and threading bolts into them. I forgot what thread they were but maybe someone that reads this will know.

    i usually take a wire brush to the exposed part of the hub then give the rotor a good kick.

    For your convenience there is bolt exactly the size you need that secures the brake line to the strut (if I remember correctly).

    That's the easiest thing to do.

    yep, thats what i had to do with mine. find some screws with the same pitch as those holes and slowly crank them down and it will pop right off.

    Last time I tried that the threads in the hole were so rusty the bolt snapped. Then the real fun began. :ugh:

    Bolts are 8mmx1.25mm thread pitch. Just did mine three weeks ago. When you tighten them down, they press against a metal plate behind the rotors, so you won't damage anything.

    My fronts came off really easy, but the rears needed the bolts.

    make sure your e-brake is off when changing the rears.
    otherwise, that rotor isn't goin anywhere.

    so i guess it must be that one bolt from the back of the rotor(rear rotors). Its kinda small like those two holes on the front of the rotor. First, I looked at those two holes and its nothing. Don't even have a "Flat head screw" shape to screw it.

    In the rear, the brake line isn't attached to the strut with a bolt.
    it's a slide clip setup.

    The ABS sensor wire is though i believe.

    sometimes it gets rusted on, so it doesn't come off easily

    first off, dont have teh ebrake on, this is lock the rotor on becuase the ebrake uses a drum in disc design. first thing to do it take teh caliper off. after this there is nothing holding the rotor on so give it a few whacks with a hammer. since you are changing rotors you dont need to use a rubber mallet. go around the outside edge and give it some decent taps and see if it loosens. chances are it is attached to the hub organically. the only thing you really need to be careful with the hammer is so that you dont brake the rotor (i have split a few into 2 pieces doign this, not fun).

    so if it wont budge look in the very center of the rotor by the lug studs. there will be 2 small holes there. they should be 8x1.25 like Stoooo said. find a 2 bolts that size and slowly tighten them in. these will push again the hub and push the rotor off.

    I've seen sometimes the parking brake shoes will "stick" inside the hat or drum part of the rotor. Best way to loosen that up is to hit the drum part of the rotor __i--i__ "where the i is" all the way around while your pulling it off. Thats assuming all the corrosion is broken up between the hub and the rotor everyone else is talking about so that the rotor will come off a little bit.

    or there are 2 screw holes that you can screw bolts in bit by bit for really stubborn rotors...

    either way if they dont pull off, spray a little penetrant around the inner circle of the rotor and into each stud hole (not Rays)

    you can hit the rotor with a normal hammer if you want to replace them... if you are replacing them beat teh piss out of them while rotating the rotor 1/2 a turn each hit... but if you are having the rotors machined dont hit on the main surface AT ALL!!!! it will dent or pit it....
