A friend of mine has a 94 Impreza with 125k miles that keeps dying on him. After he starts it, it idles at 1500 rpm, then drops to 1k, then quits after 5 mins. He's able to get it goin and drivin, but it will still just randomly die after it's warmed up.

Any wise ones here know what could be the cause?

I'd check for vac leaks and check the iac.

A crank sensor fault on a subaru would make it fail to start at all.

x2 on the IAC, it seems to be the season. Tell him to spray a **** load of throttle body cleaner down the HUGE hose that connects to the intake (obviously the IAC side of the hose) let it sit and then restart.

Awesome! You guys f'in rock! I'll help him clean out the IAC, and try the fuel filter after that, and I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Directly under the PCV valve on the upper left of the coil pack. Has the 3/4" hose running between it and the intake pipe, it has the vac lines for the pressure sensor running with it.
