I am going to add 6ounces of seafoam to my crankcase... Its a little above full, is ok to put the 6 ounces of seafoam in there. Also could over filling the oil have anything to do with misfire in cylinder 4 cel??
best way to do the sea foam, is to suck it in thru a vac line close to the intake manifold suck in maybe 1/4-1/2 bottle while you are either holding the throttle cable at partial throttle or somone is sitting in the drivers seat holding the pedal down a little bit. Let it sit 20-30 min start your car up and drive it around for a few min.
A slight overfilling shouldnt cause a misfire. you are fine putting the seafoam into the crank case, however I would not run it in there very long. It will degrade the lubricative properties of the oil. It is wise to change your oil soon after adding it (probably within a day or so). Aspitfire is refering to a method of cleaning out the intake,combustion chamber, and exhuast ports. By running seafoam into the crankcase you can attempt to clean out any oil sludge or buildup. Seafoam is a pretty universal cleaner and will work in most places (ie. oil, intake, gas, ect...)
I used the Brake Booster line that attaches to the manifold on the drivers side of the manifold. Then I filled up a clear "solo" cup with 1/3 of a can of seafoam. I wedged the cup into the engine bay, and while managing the throttle cable, would dip the BB line into the cup little by little. It sucks doing it by yourself, but it can be done fairly easily.
^ On the WRXs there is a convently located vacuum line right where the spider splits into 4. Using this vacuum line allows for a slower uptake of seafom (car wont die) and also allows for a more even distribution. When I used the brake booster line on mine it put almost all of the seafoam into the drivers side of the motor. This was evident when I had Mike do the headgaskets. There was noticeably less buildup on the drivers side pistons.
omost people use thebrake booster hose butif you look at where it plumbs into the manifold it will only effectively flow to the D/S of the engine... I have a kit that allows you to go straight into the center of the manifold and also to allow either liquid or as a spray into teh plenum... much more effective (oops as Martin posted)
Its an inch above full on the dipstick. Also i has no clue how to even begin doing it through the intake. Does anyone have any ideas how to go about fixing my misfire? I have already changed spark plugs, and moved coil pack to a different cylinder and it stayed with cylinder 4. I have switched to shell gas(through a half tank and a bottle of techron).
I can pay a 12 pack or lunch for some help. Even just listening and looking at engine.or helping me put in seafoam. Sorry 05 sti, no mods at all, except front mud flaps.

Jordan is a ways south of coon rapids. past shakopee. The process that aspitfire and wrxecho described is how to feed it into the intake. 1" over on the dipstick is quite a bit over. How long have you driven on this? Running with too much oil can cause issues with seals within the engine. although you are probably fine, it is possible for something to go wrong. From what I understand is that the extra oil creates extra oil pressure which will put extra wear and tear on the seals. Too the point where I have heard (no solid facts here) that it would be better to run low on oil that over full on oil.
I had the oil changed at 59707 and it is at 61475. I usually don't check my oil until 1500 miles past my oil change. But i checked it before I put the seafoam in today.I had the oil changed at a subaru dealer in Wisconsin.
n00b question - does anybody just dump Seafoam in their gas tank at certain intervals or are there dire consequences?
^^ wouldnt think there would be an issue... I did it on my TL1000R.. no issues... also I may head to FS tonight if the weather clears.... if I do I will try to remember to bring my little kit.. it is the BEST way I have seen done...

It depends on why they are ticking. If you have low oil or low oil pressure, then no. If they are all gummed up from lack of oil changes...then yes it may help. It also may clean out all the gummed up oil, and make your engine leak everywhere!
Yes you can put seafoam in the gas tank, it will help clean out the fuel system (lines, injectors, etc). The MOST effective way to use seafoam is to dump some on top of the pistons and let it sit overnight and then suck/absorb/push the stuff out of the cylinders again before you fire it back up. Obviously this is not an option on the subaru boxer motors as it wouldn't really do anything for the pistons. -Steve
