Always. They saved my life when I was 16 and then again when I was 21. Both times I would have atleast ate the steering wheel if not flew through the windshield for a good 100ft. I feel wierd if I don't wear them.
ALWAYS. I don't go through the car wash without them. Why the hell wouldn't you? I don't even feel confortable in a car without wearing them. I even wear them if I'm on the passenger seat. Think I'm a sissy? Talk to my friend who was driving home around a roundabout under the speed limit and got sideswiped by another car into the curb. He was thrown through the passenger window and the car rolled over him. After a 7 day stay in hospital and some nice scars for life he too wears them all the time. Its a shame some people need that kind of "motivation"...
Same here...I just don't feel right unless they're on. My ONLY exception, and this is in rare cases is when I'm on a call in a fire engine. Sometimes, we're still getting geared up and there just isn't time. However, our airpacks are secured to the truck seats, and I'll at least be strapped in that way. Would it hold in a crash? I doubt it, but it'll keep me in place through just about anything else. Typically though I'm the first through the door (living 2 blocks away has it's advantages) and I'm geared up and strapped in before the next guy gets there.
always no question, unless on the lake, then it is safest to have the window down and no seatbelt on.
my only exception is occasionally off-road, mine are very old, and tempermental (which makes me wonder if they'd help in a crash.....) and like to lock up at strange times when bouncing over obsticles. Especially if I need to lean out the window to watch my front tire, sometimes I'll take it off... I wonder who voted no.... :?:
Agreed with all. It just feels wrong to not wear it. Driver, passenger, backseat, wherever, I'm naked without it! +1 for making backseat passengers where them before you drive, no ones dying on my watch! For some reason alot of people who are very good about wearing them in the front just forget about them when the get in the back seat.
I hate the people who put it on while they're driving. Like they get into their car and no sooner has the door shut and they're already backing out of their parking spot. Parking lots are rife with things to run into and things that will run into you so why distract yourself putting your seatbelt on while cruising through one? Some even still have their cell phones pinned to their head while doing so, but that's a whole other poll. I don't allow anyone to ride with me without a seatbelt on. It's also a force of habit thing since they drill that into you in flight school. Believe it or not seatbelts save lots of lives in aircraft accidents too. In addition to that there's the bonus of it keeping you in one place in turbulence otherwise there were times I'd have been bouncing off the ceiling of the cockpit. Same goes for the car, I don't want to be sliding around in my seat should I have to do any evasive maneuvers.
I'll put my seatbelt on even if I need to pull the car out of the garage into the driveway. Talk about a good habit to have.
If you think about it, the campaign to instill the habit of putting on a seat belt automatically when getting in a car is a remarkable public safety achievement. I think a generation ago most people were like "meh, maybe I will, maybe I won't", now 99% of people just do it without thinking.
I can say that I didn't wear my seat belt till I got my wrx. In my other cars I wasn't comfortable wearing it, but once I got the wrx and started to do some track time I realized how much they actually hold you in. Now I wear them all the time, and feel kinda like I am missing something if it is not on. Russ
The ONLY time I don't wear a seatbelt is when I'm in the BACK seat of a car that doesn't have enough room to sit properly. If you can't get the belt situated such that it's holding your hips into the vertex of the seat, then there's a chance it could do more harm than good (heck, Ford had to do a recall not so long ago after their rear seatbelts killed a few people by smashing up their internal organs in a crash, because it was much too high on their waist). But if you're in the front seat and don't use the seatbelt --or put it on when you see a cop, just to avoid the $70 fine-- that's just stupid.
always! it jst feels wierd to drive with out the belt on. although tere are a few occasion when i prefer no seat belt, they are very low speed time (not that, that means anything) but like driving on ice, doing some really intricate reverse work (where you need to really twist around), going off road (sometimes. in my car w/ 500lb/in springs you need them to save the top of your head, but there are times) better safe then sorry
Been driving for 30 years with belts, wouldn't drive without them. Not interested in being an organ donor yet.
I always wear mine, but how about this question... Do you think people should be required by law to wear them? One could argue that people should have the choice, it would be hard to prove that not wearing a seat belt would hurt others... Unless a flying body is a threat to the public.
I have a habit of putting mine on before I start my car. I get too corner crazy to not put mine on. 8D
Everywhere else in the world, "no". In America... "yes". The government here protects people from their own stupidity. If I by some misadventure rear end someone and they go on to hit something else, the last thing I need is their family suing me for the rest of my life because they weren't wearing a seatbelt and died (poor example, but you get the idea).
