Well I have this guy in Canada that really wants to buy my hood. He keeps bothering me about it on Nasioc. So I told him I would try to find out the best way to ship. I have heard of these getting damaged in shipping so I would of course have insurance on it. Whats the best or cheapest company to go through? Whats the best way to package it? Any Ideas?
make sure to get big giant pieces of styrofoam blocks around the corners to avoid breaking and/or damaging them
if greyhound goes to canada then try that. I shipped a bumper for $50 and it got to MA in 3 days with tracking/insur.
Don't forget the import taxes that need to be paid when shipping to Canada. UPS and the like will act as a broker for it, but it's expensive. The post office will do it for a lot less, but they may not ship something like a hood. I found the rules and regulations complex enough that I decided against shipping the stuff I was selling to Canada.
I have to pay import taxes? WTF. Is this applied all the time when things are shipped to canada? I could say that its a gift and then not pay import tax correct??
Well, technically the buyer needs to pay them, but they have to be paid for it to be shipped in, and so they have to pay you to pay them. And the rates and procedures are different for different provinces. I'm sure once you've figure it all out it's not so bad, but to ship just one item it usually isn't wort the hassle.
I never pay taxes, but I never ship hoods. Small items you throw in a birthday card, and claim it as a gift.
