Going to try to tackle painting my side skirts myself. Any suggestions? Where to get the paint? dont do it, you are a moron? anything?
IIRC there's a place in town (someone else chim in) where you can get the factory paint put in a rattle can. Search nabisco (nasioc) and clubwrx.net, I've seen a tutorial on this.
I've done it I've done it with my '02 mbp side skirts. Turned out pretty good but if i had to do it again i'd spend more time on prep. The texture of the skirts showed through a little but it only noticeable from close. Used 2 cans of flex primer on the skirts and should have used 3 cans and sanded alot more. Got my paint here and it matched perfectly(rattle can) http://www.paintscratch.com/ Good luck, should turn out great if you take your time and get some good wet clear coats on in the end.
Super helpful! thanks man. Did you take them off before you did it? A guy that lives by me did his and left them on. I didnt think that was a very good idea. What ounce cans did you order?
Welle's Auto paint & suplly, something like that. In NE Mpls. Thats where I get my scoop paint. about $25/can. Not 100% perfect but not really noticeable of a difference from original paint. If any body want, I still got a OEM Silver spray can left for $20.
I would take them off if I were you. No reason to risk overspray, not to mention wasting a ton of time masking everything off. It's my understanding that they're easy to take off.
yeah I'll do that then. I will have to do a bit of homework as to how to take them off, unless anyone has done it before and can tell me heh. its an 02
way easy to take off just go under the car there will be like 6 plastic tabs, to remove tabs pop out center round part (looks like plastic screw with a wide open mouth) and the rest of the tab just comes out. remove the plastic tabs and the side skirts come right off, easy as pie.
Yup just as the others stated, take them off. Makes way easier and less likely to get over spray on your car. While you're at it take off that plastic piece(dog bone) above the skirt and in front of the rear wheel and paint that too. It'll have to be snapped off but mine have been taped on with 3m auto tape for the last year no issues. Completes the look nicely. Removal of the skirts is very easy. Look for the tabs on the underside and one or two in the front wheel well. Take a look, you can't really go wrong
Awesome. sounds real easy. I seem to have a tendancy to snap those little things in half so I'll have to be carefull with them this time :eek4:
ill paint them for you for 200 bucks, with warranty. it would be factory grade paint and guys can vouch for my work here. the thing about paint plastics if not prepped right the paint wont stick for long. ill be able to do it for cheaper if i have your paint in stock which i may because i have painted several subaru parts in the last month. let me know.
Do you have '04 WR Blue in stock? My color code is 02C. I have a tiny can of touch-up paint, but I'm pretty sure that won't be enough. If you have it in stock, what's the price difference exactly?
the price difference would be about 60 bucks, unfortunately i do not have that color in stock. let me know what you decide on. thanks tom
