Does anybody know a place in Twin Cities that sell Snell approved helments? Bike dealerships charge way too much for them. Looking for something less than $100.

    Thanks,
    Max.

Those are it. for the record I picked up a basic helmet that has the M2000 rating
for $130 at bob's cycle. HJC CL-15 is what I got.
good luck Using mine for auto cross and track days for car.

$130 is little too much for me. I could get it online for less than $100 but want to know if I could get it locally before I commit to buy.

Also craigslist is a good resource.

There's Dennis Kirk about an hour north on I-35 too. They have an outlet store by the freeway that can have good deals, if there's nothing there you can order from the catalog and drive into town and pick up your order from the warehouse right then. I got my helmet from them, it was under $100.

+1 for Dennis Kirk. They also have fast shipping to your door and friendly/helpful operators. I always order my atv stuff from them.

Yes for Dennis Kirk, my old man got a Simpson helmet from the scratch and dent store for under 100 a few years back. Deals to be had there.

So you don't need a SA helmet for Auto-X? Or just for road course stuff?

This just makes me cringe. Never buy a used helmet unless you know it's life story. One good impact, that might not leave anything visible on the helmet, and it's integrity could well be compromised. Not to mention that the materials break down with age.

I spent $200 on my current helmet, and that's buying at the bottom of the barrel IMHO. My next will probably run twice that.

I've only got one brain, ID like to keep it.

I got mine at bobs cycle. Mostly because they are about 3 feet from me. Their selection is pretty good. The cheapest snell 2005 you'll find there is probably a little over $100.

For riding a motorcycle, yes. For autocross...I don't think it really matters. :hsugh:

Really? So when your head hits the steering wheel or b pillar a helmet that may or may not take the impact is fine?

i'm pretty sure anything that is snell rated will deal with bumping the steering wheel just fine

Bob's Cycle has a cheap HJC open-face helmet for about 60-70 bux. it's Snell M2005 certified, and is a pretty decent helmet actually. it's the same model MAC uses for it's loaner helmets.

Definitely wouldn't buy a helmet from a pawn shop though. don't want to buy one that was in an accident and cleaned up, and i really doubt they go x-raying them.

that may be true with some rally and autox, but i dont think any track or drag strip wont. i know BIR, Rockfalls, and MAM will NOT let you use a 95 anymore. They expire them in 10 years.
