Ok I know I'm jumping the gun, but being that it's September now, and next month is October, and I've snowboarded in October for the past few years at Trollhaugen, I'm getting excited! Who else is thinking about it? Where are you getting a pass this year? I'm going to be getting one to Afton again. See you guys on the slopes soon enough!
It better not snow in October. I love snowboarding, but I am very much enjoying the nice warm weather for now.
I'll be running snowboard D-team and all the Rock-N-Ride comps at afton this year. So I'll be out 2 - 4 days a week. I am excited .... we'll see how poor i am... but the current plan is to ProForm new boots, bindings and board this year. Plus afton has new (sick) jackets for the season. Good bye ski cut puffy crap and hello snowboard jacket shell! I think my pants need replacement as well... yeah! Stoked on new gear!
Well, I'll follow up the fact that I've snowboarded in October in fake snow each time. Trollhaugen usually has 1 hill open by end of October, along with Wild Mountain, they are always in a race to see who opens first.
Yeah buddy! I am excited as well, but have to get my knee checked out as it is stiff and I think there is some fluid build up. (No idea how this happened!) I'll probably get another season pass to Afton. I sure hope there is more snow than last year.....
I actually bought my first board in about 10 years! Burton Barracuda 165 I can finally retire the old Salomon 163 carving board and my ancient House 159 (circa ~1997?). Too old to do any real riding any more, but a couple of trips up to Spirit along with occasional early bird sessions at Buck Bump will have to keep me fulfilled until a trip to CO in Feb. ...spend most of my snow time on the snowmobile, now. Oh how things have changed since I started riding my old Sims Halfpipe in 1987!
This SIMS freestyle board was my favorite board back in the day that I never owned. With that being said... This will be my 19th season. I remember my first setup.... K2 JuJu 141 Liquid Halfpipe Bindings Private Label Halfpipe boots
I haven't ever tried snowboarding. I'm from the west coast and always skied, but this winter I wanted to give it a go.
If you come to Afton you get a free hour lesson every time you rent a snowboard. I would suggest coming for the first set of lessons on Saturday or Sunday morning. The early lessons are at 10am but showing up at 9:15am or 9:30am to get though rental and be ready to go by 10am. There is never anyone at the first set of lessons so you have a very good chance of 1 on 1 instruction.... vs a group of 2 - 4 people. The lesson is an hour long. I really suggest taking lessons, they make life a lot easier.
^^ Awesome! I think I am going to try to get my girl into this snowboarding stuff, so I might see ya out there at the lessons! My only tip for the new guy: Drinking and riding the terrain park when youre a rookie is a terrible idea.... It's almost October now.....
I think my setup is good to go. I usually hit Afton on Sundays before it is fully open and then switch to Friday nights at Troll once the late night stuff starts.
Make sure to hit me up. I'll be running Freestyle D-Team every Thursday night and Sunday day (afton). I hope to make a few late night troll sessions this year. ORDERED MY NEW SETUP! Now i just have to wait for k2 to ship it to the store. I LOVE PRO FORM!
ill be hitting up wild for a while as it is close to my house and such but hopeful will make it to Afton and possibly Spirit up in Duluth
LOL, I live within blocks of you then. I am between McKnight and Margaret st about 1 block off of 7th.
I'll go with, I need to pick up a new board but would like to meet some of you guys on a weekend sometime.
I will go to Wild for sure this year... but it is only because they are in our D-Team league and I need to run the event that day. Honestly, if I am paying for a lift ticket it will be the late night Troll sessions on Fridays. Otherwise, it's hard to justify driving an hour to pay for a lift ticket at Wild when Afton is free and 25 mins away.
Did you already get your season pass? My coworker and I are looking for 2 more people to go in on the 4 pack. (Saves ~$100 vs. single season pass) If anyone is interested let me know!
Just an FYI, Welch Village is going to be running a lift ticket special. Starting tomorrow through Sunday in their online store, daily tickets will be $30.00. Regular price is $49.00. Good anytime, unlimited quantity. Also if you purchase a ticket, you will be entered into a drawing for a season pass. Find me out there every Saturday. I'll be wearing one of those white crosses on my back.
Now I'm ready for snow. Boots thermal fitted, new socks, new pipe gloves, new board, boots and bindings! K2 ParkStar 163 wide K2 Darko Boots K2 National Bindings Oh and new snowboard instructor jackets that i actually want to wear!
Ride kink Dc bao's Neff jacket Session snow pants Burton freestyle bindings at 15 to 25 degree offsets
Nice, yeah... I had mine at 30° but bumped it back down to about 27°... I really won't know till i ride it.
Still looking to get rid of this setup. Figuered i'd post it where my fellow boarders post. http://mnsubaru.com/threads/gi-fs-mens-salomon-156-drift-snowboard-w-burton-bindings-and-bag.38793/
Dude, you should have dropped that into one of the many fall fairs that were going on over the past month.
