I'll be riding around checking on the different D-team Coaches/Groups. I'd say look for the blue jacket, but there will be a few hundred of us. I'll be around the parks mostly. Black/colorful board, yellow bindings, black and orange boots, black helmet and a walkie talkie... Most people in the ride school won't have the radio on their jacket. Say hi if you notice me
Guise, I was just out at wild last wendseday and i was so psyched up i went out and bought a new board(burton blunt) yesterday! unfortnetly stuck at work all weekend i cannot go out till next week... but i'm gonna be going out alot this year since i invested some money into it for the first time in 3 years.
Did you make it out? I was on the lookout for you today. The snow was epic. We lapped 2 all day, the left side was constant powder. It was a fantastic day to ride!
Yes sir! I wasn't sure where you were located and my buddy ended up coming out with his step daughter. It was really a fun time with all of the snow. A true winter wonderland!
If you have a significant other (female) looking to learn how to snowboard this is a great way to get them confidant fast. My wife had been teaching this for a few years. The girls always have a blast. They have 4 and 8 week programs. Hit me up if you have questions. Sessions start Jan.
I was out for a few hours yesterday derping around Afton. Snow was a lot better than I thought it would be considering the weather the day before. Nice job Afton snow crew.
December Rock N Ride Saturday the 22nd Registration @ Noon, Event is @ 1pm Cost is FREE Location, look for the K2 tent by the Meadows Chalet (should be run #9 or #8) Depending on Mother Nature, we will have new features setup for Twin Tip and Snowboarding. The extent of the new features will depend on how much new snow we can make between now and Saturday. The event will go until 4pm or 5pm. We will put people in groups of similar age. This makes the playing field a bit more fair to win free swag. Come out, shred the park and enjoy some tunes. We will have professional video and photo crews out to capture the event. Just a bonus perk for everyone who wants to join in. Hit me up with any questions, otherwise see you out there. Derek
maybe ill come down then even though its an hour away... but i have to get ready for spirit and lutsen
Anyone check out or try that big air bag at Buckhill? Just saw it on the news. I think thats a great way to try out some new moves. Looked like a lot of fun.
We had a video made for the Rock N Ride in December. I figured I would share with people if they don't know what a Rock N Ride is about. I can't wait for the January Rock N Ride now that all the real parks were setup. The December Rock N Ride was on the temp "early season" park. Mother Nature didn't feel it necessary to provide us with good snowmaking weather in time for the December Rock N Ride. Anyways, here is the video. Feel free to come out an join us for the next 3! February will be BoarderX. Jan and March are Slope Style/Big Air.
Seems like the best place to put this.. http://snowboarding.transworld.net/...-road-trip-episode-one/#.UOcPQfsAMXs.facebook http://goboardin.com/ http://goboardin.com/about-the-car/
How was it? I haven't been out there this year. It was a good thing you avoided Afton on Sunday. They were crazy busy! The lift lines weren't really there... but they had no parking. I have to carry a radio when I am working D-team. The whole day was just chatter about having 3 parking spots and 60 cars at the bottom and top of the hill. There were people parked on the road next to the creek... it was insane. I don't see too many days where they are parking people on the road. It was also super weird that there was almost no lift line, maybe they were all learning?!?!? Went out Monday and by 8pm we were some of the only people on the hill. Went to Buck last night for a meeting about our D-team comp this weekend. I have to say that I will never pay money to ride at Buck. We got there early to ride around and check out the hill. I have been there before but I am always working a comp so I never get to really ride around. It is so small and there isn't anything to it. I guess I understand why all the Buck locals ride park... that is all there really is. I would much rather ride Troll or Wild if I am not going to be at Afton.
Not too bad. The new part they added a while back had some ice on some of the steeper runs. But the run to access the lift back there seems to have been holding up ok. Strange part was I was unable to find the big park. They had a little progression park going on with a few rails but nothing with really any jumps beyond a few rollers.
It was icy when i went out there last year too... too bad, it looks like it would be more fun with good snow.
Welch has opted not to have any kind of big park this year. What you saw on the front bunny hill is all they have. I don't understand that decision at all. The management is not very pro-boarder. The best time to ride the back "bowl" is first thing in the morning. By the end of the day, all the people that shouldn't try to ride steep stuff have scraped all the snow off. No offense to you that board, but the novice riders that venture into that area are the worst. Nothing but heel side side slips just scrape all the snow to the bottom. If we see them not trying to make a turn, we kindly suggest they return to the easier slopes. Still, if you want to make some turns, carve some steeper slopes, Welch is has some great runs. I'm there every Saturday. Look for a red vest with a white cross, and a white visored helmet.
Afton Alps Rock N Ride - Saturday the 19th Cost - FREE (with lift ticket or season pass) Time - Registration is @ Noon, Comp starts @ 1pm Location - The large park (chair 8, Carol's Crib, Meadows) *** The park is getting torn down next week for new features. This will be the last chance to ride the current setup in this park *** Rock N Ride will focus on Big Air and Slope Style (Boxes and Rails). Part of the event will be based on best of 3 runs. I am thinking we will do this on the Big Air for the day. The Slope Style part of the event will be open format. Show off your skills and impress the random judges/riders on the hill. We have lots of good swag to give away this weekend, come and take some off our hands. Also Erik Blume Photography will be out making a snowboard video from the event. Check out lasts month event.... note that this was held in the temp snowboard park as all 6 snowboard parks had not been setup at the time of this event. Hit me up with any questions or stop by and say hi if you come out. Derek
Took the family to Afton today, good snow, no crowds. A couple of runs were new to me down at the far left end (as you face the mountain). One was a really fun terrain park.
I figured this would be a good opportunity to invite some MNSubaru people out to shred. A large group of my friends/subi people/afton instructors are going out for a late night Troll session for my B-day next week. Anyone is welcome to come and shred with us. It's Friday Feb 8th. Late night snowboarding is 10pm - 3am and it is $15. I think a few of us are going to show up early to drink a beer or two before riding. My current plan is to show up sometime around 9pm - 9:30pm... grab a beer and hang out until we can pick up lift tickets at 10pm.
Reading through this makes me want to get out and try riding again. It's been way too long. My boards are both Burton customs from 97 and 2000 to give ya an idea how long it's been. This also gave me a reason to look up a long lost friend who moved out west (summit county CO) after we graduated 1n 97. If any of you 30 somethings competed much locally in the late 90's you surely crossed paths with him. Found some neat videos he's made. Looks like he's got some sick foosball skills too!
Afton on Saturday What: BoarderX and SkierX When: Saturday NIGHT 2.9.13 Registration: 5pm - 6pm Start Time: 6:15pm - 9pm (or when done) Where: Chair #11 (Left of the Meadows) Fernie's Folly Cost is Free with Lift Ticket. The February Rock N Ride will be BoarderX SkierX this year. We are also doing this at night vs the day. The event will kick off sometime around 6pm depending on how registration is looking. Show up around 5pm to ensure that you get on the brackets. Once registration is closed we cannot add anyone to the brackets. BoarderX SkierX will be double elimination. We will run until we have a winner. People who are in the event will remain at the bottom of the hill until it is their turn to run. If you are not around when your bracket is running then you are automatically counted for a loss. To keep this from happening hang out at the bottom until your group is ready to run. We will have judges bring groups up the lift to the start gate when it is their turn. The final groups will be decided on Saturday. However here is our tentative breakdown. The day of we will look at numbers and age groups to determine the final brackets. Snowboards - 12 and Under 13 - 16 17+ Skiers - All Ages

I will be hosting with 2 other people that have helped run the other BoarderX and Rock N Rides this year. This will be a ton of fun and it a great event prior to Spring Fling the following Saturday.
Was out at Afton yesterday, best MN snow I've ridden in a few years. Some blue coat was really interested in my bindings as he sounded the 'lowbacks in the house' alarm two or three times as I was getting situated up top.
I really wanted to go out yesterday. The wife went instead.... i waxed her board prior to her leaving. She had a good time out.
This just went public... they filled us in a while ago. I am stoked for the upgrades! "As part of Vail Resorts' commitment to providing the experience of a lifetime to all of its guests, the Company plans to invest nearly $10 million in enhancements and upgrades to Afton Alps this summer to dramatically improve the guest experience next winter. Vail Resorts intends to significantly improve snowmaking to open the ski resort earlier, extend the season and provide a more consistent and high-quality snow surface; create state-of-the-art terrain parks with extensive new features and rope tows; energize and modernize the base area facilities; and add Vail Resorts' signature EpicMix and EpicMix Racing technology to personalize the guest experience." Had to work for the best snow we've seen in couple of years earlier this week. I get to go on Saturday and the forecast is for rain. The season is coming to an end.
