As some of you may know I work at Erik's in EP part-time to keep me in the loop on Biking and Snowboarding. With 18+ years of aggressive riding and formal education on both fronts I've developed a depth of knowledge. With that said, I'm now going to offer Snowboarding lessons again. I used to do this when I lived in Colorado and worked for Keystone Ski Resort.

If you're interested in learning more about the sport, the right equipment & sizing, proper techniques, or need lessons please don't hesitate to contact me.

I will be flexible for types of lessons and location, but usually at Hyland or Afton and Weekday evenings and Sundays.

    Lesson examples would be...
Basics- everything from strapping in to using the chair lift
Intermediate- Carving techniques, body posture, basic jumps
Advanced- High speed carving to learning that backside 540 grab that you seen once on TV that looks so cool.
(The one item I don't instruct is rails. too dangerous to teach...learn on your own.)

My lesson rates will be $20.00 for 2-3 hours, per person. I will offer group discounts.

Questions? PM me or stop by the EP Erik's store. I'm there on Saturdays.

and they are already making snow at Hyland!!!

I need pointers. I started boarding again last year after taking oh, about 8 years or so off and was struggling to get carving well again. i have a rossi scope 162 which gets me going so much faster than my old board (and is longer too) that its taking em a while to get used to. I'll be contacting you in a little while about details.

Boyd?? LOL yeah, taken a few crazy trips out west with him. It's fun throwing beginners down a extreme run a telluride or wolf creek...and boyd is always up for them.

Dave-o? of course, he is now the President of Eriks. Good guy

below is a pic of boyd (crazy skier outfit on...) and me at the top of alberta peak, wolf creek. this was a couple years ago.

here's me with boyd and a couple others last winter at Teton Pass, doing some backcountry hiking/snowboarding. Note the prayer flags behind us. That was one crazy run down with 15-20 foot wind lips all the way down! :yumyum:

Wolf Creek! I've wanted to go to that place for years but never seem to make it down there. Do you have any plans for falling off mountains this winter? Here's my feet:

Off the back side of The Big Mountain, Whitefish, MT.

Perhaps WallOfTVs can help me remember the name of this place, I think it was flower point?

Find its exact location on Google Earth:
    48°30'43.39"N
    114°19'11.59"W

Maybe we should have a mnsubaru snowboarding trip/parking lot donut contest at Afton sometime.

BTW, did you know you don't have to be a student to be in the U of M ski/snowboard club? They do two trips a year and its usually about $450 for tickets/lodging/transportation. Wicked cheap.

I may need some lessons as well. The pic below is a good friend of mine at Sunshine Village (I'm in the pic and took the same route on skiis, but have no visual proof). This is what I want to be able to do...but being a converted skier, it may take me some time to get to this point.

Also, do you have any good suggestions for boots? I want a nice pair, but not the top of the line stuff. I don't plan on doing a lot of park stuff...but do want to do dumb stuff like this.

I love the 32 lashers...heat moldable....great boot, support, yet flexible enough to tweak.
I'll set you up if you come to eriks.....

Dave. I think I have met you at eriks before. About two winters ago I bought a board and boots on two different occasions at EP eriks. I believe the man who helped me was named Dave both times.

Bah! I should bring the 171 out of retirement... I rode it to 3rd Place in Giant Slalom (way back in 1991, Upper Midwest Amateur Snowboard Points Series) that thing was wicked fast in the powder! It was also versatile enough to get me 5th Place in the HalfPipe that year, as well.

Anyway, no need to rehash the good ole days of riding.... :p

Ahh...171 was standard back then. My first board was a 1988 Sims Switchblade, 170...those were the days!!!!:)

Last year I rode a 195 Burton swallow tail in 4ft of fresh on top of a 200 inch base...OMG Face shots face shots!! At Grand Targhee it was soooo deep and snowing so hard that I couldn't use that board for more than a few runs. On every carve the board would cake your face so thick with powder that you would have to slow down and wipe off 6 inches of snow from your face afterwards.

Yup, flower point is the name of the peak we hike to and then drop into the chutes of canyon creek. Here's me on that same chute from where w_o_t_boy took the photo of his feet.

Some people like to keep control when going down a steep hill. Then again, control is often over-rated.

Tree's arent forgiving though. Awesome pics though, I want to take a trip out west, but I need more money first.

I ride an old 186 Morrow Escape + for a standard board. I have a park board to, but I love seeing the expression on the face of little 130 riding punk 14 yr olds when i jump over them in the air off of the same jump. Speed is my vise.

oh yeah and im 6'5" 284lbs, so the board isn't that odd looking

You just have to plan ahead more.

Maybe SoA should change its slogan from "Power is nothing without control." to "Control is often over-rated."

^^^Going fast is one thing, but hitting steep to near vertical chutes while laying a 20 foot spray during a deep, yet smooth carve is unforgetable!

Well, last week just didn't work out...when do you work over the next few weeks. I have some time before I'll be boarding...but I don't want "lack of boots" to be my excuse for not going.

    Thanks,
