I am about to start attempting to install amp wiring and, later on, a CD deck in the STi. I have done this before, but not in the Subie. Anyone bored today and wanting to join me? I would provide beer if this were the case

Gathering parts right now, probably going to get something started momentarily, but it may take all day since I don't know where to go through the firewall, how to get past the backseat, or how to even get the factory player out...

firewall... the whole is right behind the intercooler about a foot down more towards the drivers side... you may need to unbolt the rear seat... i have a wagon so it folds and stuff... the factory deck comes out via phillips screws behind the trim which is held on by clips... so a pry tool may be needed the first time... good luck

as far as I know most after market decks and be isomounted into our cars. The only thing that would be needed if it is not a double din is a plate, or a pocket for the extra din spot. I know I did not need a dash kit in my car, heck none of my 3 subarus needed dash kit.

Hmm, well I just got a dash kit that includes a pocket, so that part should be all good

Thats kinda scary... I was about to start disassembling the console to get to the factory one, but you can just stick something like a small screwdriver in there to pop the frame off???

Yeah all you need is the pocket, everything else screws right in nicely. Be easy on the trim if it's never been taken off, it's easy to crack. Use a cloth or somthing over your pry tool. You should be able to sneak those wires behind the seat into the trunk too.
