Hey guys, hopefully one of you can help answer some questions. I just got a different STI driveshaft to complete my 6 speed swap and it looks different than the one that came with the swap so I just wanted to make sure it will work. I have an 07 wrx and I bought a full 07 STI swap (with R180) but the rubber collar for the center carrier bearing was broken (top in pics) so I bought another one from someone on Nasioc (bottom). The new one doesn't have that center "slip yoke" (is that what its called?) part so is just solid up to the center UV joint and it is about 1" longer than the old one (I tried to extend the top one as far as it would go). I believe they are both STI driveshafts because of the center UV joint instead of ball joint for the wrx but does anyone know why my replacement is different? JDM sti? Automatic impreza? Also, is the length difference just because I didn't extent the slip yoke far enough? Do you think my new one will work? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I tried searching around and couldn't find my answer. Thanks!
It has the center u-joint, so it is not an AT driveshaft. I believe the ones with the u-joint and solid back half are the JDM ones. I'm sticking with my recommendation to just swap the back half so it's the right length overall.
Thanks guys! I will swap the back half of my old one if it turns out my replacement is too long. I swear I searched for a while before I asked the question but I actually JUST found this post on Nasioc: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2460040 And it has this picture with the actual lengths. I just measured both of mine and my new replacement is exactly 50.5" and my old one is only 49.5" so I think my new one will work! The old one that came with the swap looks pretty beat up so I assume that slip joint in the middle is either damaged or rusty inside so it won't slide all the way out. I hope that doesn't mean my diff/tranny are damaged as well... But we will see. Also, the one in this picture is solid like my new one so I still don't know why some sti driveshafts have the slip joint and others don't.
