So, I have been thinking of buying a STi for some time now(just been waiting for the right deal and the 240 to get sold). I kind of figured I would never afford the insurance increase over my 03 WRX while being a college kid working part time. Today I go to one of my insurance agents to take care of my renters insurance. They have always been high on prices for auto, thats why I don't have my insurance through them. I ask them to run my rates on a 03 WRX vs. a 05 STi. Some how some way, it was $40 a month CHEAPER for insurance on the STi. Anyone else have a situation like this? I am shocked right now.
I have a situation like that. But to explain your situation, they must be giving you 'combo' insurance discount since you have renters with them. ~Dan
Oh my, I thought I was alone. My STI is also way cheaper to insure than my WRX and I can't explain it, nor do I complain. Same coverage too! Maybe your insurance guy got "STI" mixed up with "TS"? ~Dan
Nope, i double checked 2.5L Turbo STI is what it said on the screen. Only thing we could think of was that the STi had higher saftey raitings then my WRX does and I have a accident on my record. We ran it with the accident removed and the WRX was cheaper. However the price on both dropped alot.
When I was getting quotes my 02 WRX was quite a bit cheaper than an 04 STI, but an 04 WRX was exactly the same as an STI.
Who knows what was going on all i know is I liked it! My quotes: 03 WRX- $189 a month 05 STi- $151 a month after my accident comes off in 3 weeks... 03 WRX- $98 a month 05 STi $121 a month
it will drop alot. i had one ticket on my record with geico for 67 in a 55 and when it came off my insurance went from 173 a month to 137 on my 02
If they go down that much, I can't wait until my 3 come off. I wonder what my 109 will get dropped to? 07WRX (06sti lul)
Their data might show that STI owners make fewer claims than WRX owners. I'm sure a lot of you might disagree, but sometimes a more expensive car means a more responsible driver.
I changed mine a week ago. 09 wrx limited. $575 - 6months - 750 deductable Farmers $296 - 6months - 500 ded Progressive I could never afford to pay the 6mo at farmers. So I was actually paying about 100 a month because I didnt get the discount for paying six months in advance. So switching cut my insurance cost in half.
I had the samething when I was looking for car the WRX was more than the STI, the reason that I was told was more younger people can afford the WRX and they go driving around like they have a race car and crash them. The STI's don't have as many people crash them.
I discovered that (through State Farm) it is cheaper to insure a year-old Infiniti EX35, or a year-old Acura RDX than a 2010 Forester XT. I know they're used and all, but that just seems silly.
