STI Shifter Play

    So I've got a problem; my shifter is sloppy. There's about an inch left and right with no resistance. I replaced both front and rear bushings today with kartboys. I still have play, the shifting is just a little more precise. Here's a video I took after installing the bushings. Any ideas?

    I love the difference the TIC kit made for me. I did the Wide Kit ($99) and it really made a difference. Sounds like you already have some of those bushings installed. I agree with idget, get the rest of the TIC bushings.

    Thanks for the replies. I'm sure getting the linkage bushings would help, but i don't think it'll solve my problem. Here is another video focusing on the linkage bushings. The slop that I am getting is happening closer to the trans. It is in the joint that slides onto the shift rod as seen in the picture below. The hole/pin must be worn out on that joint (Murphdog on nasioc pointed this out.) I'll order a set of linkage bushings while i'm at it along with the joint and pin.

    Could be. There are several sloppy areas associated with the design. Any left to right movement in and out of gear is typically the bushings I posted and/or the joint itself that you posted. Rarely, it's the pin size at the base of the lever. There are 2 widths, and the narrow base with a wide pin (although the bushings aren't always interchangeable) can also cause the side to side play. It's a bit more obvious and audible though.

    I ordered the U-Joint and spring pin from my sube dealer. I'll be ordering the linkage bushings from TIC. I doubt I need the pin, but it was a dollar and change. Thanks for the input guys.

    Might just be the spring. I know that was the issue on my red wagon. Slop disappeared after replacing that.

    Now I just need to find time to get under the fozz and see if that's the reason behinds my shifter slop. Not as bad as yours though.

    Finally had time to fix this. The problem was not the U-Joint. Although I did replace it, unnecessarily. The spring pin that joins the U Joint to the shift rod was worn out. Made a $50 fix instead of a $3.
