STi Y pipe

So I bought a sti intercooler and it has the factory Y pipe on it, from what I have read and heard this won't mate up with the turbo on the wrx, correct? What Y pipe do I need to buy for this to mate up? I need to pick one up by monday cuz that when IC will be here. Any suggestions on what to get?

I think you need a custom/longer elbow at the bottom by the turbo, as the inlet on the TD04 is shorter then the VF39.

 

so i just need a longer 90 degree elbow?

I do and bought an STi intercooler without the y pipe and plan on installing it like this.

 

I don't have an account on there, but from what i read they used some 2'' diameter pipe and just connected it to the turbo?

I bought the samco one and like it just fine. Hated that stock piece, was always a bitch to put back on.

 

can you use a samco y pipe with the wrx stock aluminum connector pieces? Is that what your spose to use if you go with the sti tmic on the wrx

 

where can you find the 90 degree pipe locally?

 

That is what I am going to try. I will attempt it this weekend and let you know how it works out.

how about the coupler to the TB will the stock WRX one fit the IC or do I need a bigger one as well?

 

I believe you'll need a new one of those, as well. The stock STI DBW one is a different size then the stock 2.0L WRX one.

i've seen the tb coupler from a wrx used many times, but it is shorter than the sti one

 

man...there alot more that goes into putting an STi intercooler onto a wrx than I thought!
