(96 impreza 2.2L) Hi, so I thought one of my camshaft oil seals was leaking. I did the job myself changed out the (if facing the engine) right cam seal, but its still leaking. I got under the car and I think the leak is actually coming from behind the timing cover. There is a gasket behind the timing cover which goes between what I think is the cam housing and oil is coming out of it. (pretty good amount of oil) Anyone have experience with this? Help! Thanks.
New o-ring but still leaking Thanks for the response. I tore it all back down again and put in a new cam o-ring, put the timing belt back on ran it for about 5min then looked under the cam housing and there is fresh oil! Nice big drop right behind the rt side timing cover between the cam housing and the cover. I can't seem to find an install guide for the seal itself. Do you have to pound in the seal somehow. As of now the old one just popped out and I pushed in the new one. Is that how it's done? I don't know what the problem is. I put in a new cam seal and a now a new o-ring. What else could it be? Any thoughts? Thanks again.
got it That was it, I did not put the seal on right. I tapped it on and presto no leaks. I got really good at taking off and putting on the timing belt! Thanks to anyone who chimed in.
glad it could be figured out! AND someone who admits they didnt do something correctly the first time instead of making up excuses. congrats on both.
