boutght a dual bar brace.... one of the bars seems to go over the the tip of the top mount intercooler and vibrates Grrrrr.... looks like it could use a few MM of clearence and then the issue would be solved... anyone have similar issues? know a quick fix?
06/07 sti right? IS it rubbing on the AC line nearest the driver's side strut tower? If so, there is a 3 bolt clamp for the AC line (2 on the firewall, 1 on the ac line)that you can undo or modify. You can also carefully bend the ac line in that area. I had the same issue with ebay strut bar/stock intercooler on an 07 STI and washers didn't quite work (unless I stacked 3-4).
nope, corner of the intercooler.. I moved the piping allready. I wonder if I unbolt the nuts that bolt the bar to the braces if I can raise the bar a little .. I thought the loops where the bolt goes through were larger then the bolt.... could be wrong.
see how it sits pretty much ON the intercooler right where that little tag is on the bar, thats where it's rubbing... rubbed hard enough to scratch the metal on the intercooler and the bar. just barley tho... so just a hint of clearence should clear the issue... i'll have to try washers, or maybe make a custom plate. OOooo I wonder if grimspeed could cut some spacers for that??
Have you tried adjusting or bending the intercooler mounting bracket on the drivers side (the one that bolts between the intercooler bracket and the intake manifold)? There is a little bit of wiggle room with the 2 IC mounts. Obviously don't bend it too much, and you'll likely need to adjust the passenger side DP to intercooler bracket if the angle is way off.
honestly..take it off. You won't notice a difference with or without it. I had the same brace and gave it to chet, it didn't do me a thing since my car is not on the track and really not being torqued enough that one of these would actually make a difference
What he said. The strut towers are so close the the firewall that there's enough support there already. You're just adding weight.
if, you are not running aggressive suspension. maybe it is just the older GC frame work, but there was a substantial difference shown for me on my wagon
Dunno. My statements were based on the STI body style and the testing carlab did on front/read strut braces and their xbrace (rear only).
Bolded and Italicized for emphasis. The GC (and BC Chassis) are noodles compared to GD+. My braces should all be sitting at my hosue when I get home.
