Stuck Slide Pin

So apparently whenever I do anything to my car, something has to be difficult. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the damn slide pin moving again. None of the dealers have the front right bracket that it's on, so it would have to be ordered.

The last time I did the brakes, the same damn one was stuck and I had to get a new bracket with new pins/boot etc. So, any advice on getting this bugger to move would be great, thanks.

Also, If I can't get the thing to move, should I still put the new pads on it, or should I just stick the old ones on that side?

heat, twisting, etc.

if worse comes to worse.....drill a small hole in the back of the bracket so you can get a punch through and pound the pin out from the back. then you can tap some threads in the hole and a bolt to seal it back up. then use a wire brush to clean up the pin and regrease liberally.


and no, I would not use new pads with a seized pin. When I bought my blue '88 wagon a few years ago, I was told it had bad brakes. Let me find the pic of the front rotor.....(martin? you got one handy?)

 

heat it cherry red.. then use vice grips.. twist slightly at a time.... eventually it will come out.. if it does come out, then wait till it cools, then use a drill bit and clean out the inside of the slide... then wire wheel the pin.... grease it up and good to go

Well, that depends. I have a first issue 02 wrx. They changed the calipers somewhere in the middle of 02.

And how much? cause a new bracket is only like 60 from the dealer. How's that killer deal of an Xbox360 workin' out for ya'? :ugh:

I just slapped the old pads back on that side and called her a day. I tried with a torch...but it wasn't acetylene so it would've taken forever to get it red hot. Needles to say, I didn't get it to budge.

 

uummm probably another 2-3 mins with the torch and it would have been cherry... so you just put a non functioning brake part back on the car... maybe your car is saying.. stop hacking me!!!

 

I'll fix it when I get the darn bracket...I gotta be able to drive! I just won't be doing any hard braking until I put that in. I had to yesterday as traffic came to a screeching halt, and that's when I noticed the shaking, hence why I took a look at it today. And none of the damn dealers in town keep those in stock! :-/

 

was just playing with ya... it sucks when little things like this pop up... brakes are such a simple fix.. then boom.. stuck pin....
