So I was driving yesterday, nothing crazy just putting around town. Pull up to a light and smoke is pouring out of my exhaust and from under the hood. Before I know it the cabin is full of smoke too and it smells like oil. Rats.

Pulled it home and saw that oil was coming out of each side of my turbo. Not cool. I thought maybe my drain got plugged up so I pulled it off and tried to Blow into it with some vinyl tubing and a hose barb. I was able to blow into it, but it wasn't leaving the system and pushing right back at me. Hmmmm, a clog somewhere. So I started pulling hoses and checking for clogs. Traced it to the catch can, so I pulled it off and what do you know, the fittings were all iced up.

A bunch of crankcase pressure doesn't let the turbo drain. I lost a quart of oil between each side of the turbo. My piping and intercooler are full of oil.

I understand the potential benifit to some setups of running a catch but to me it just seems like a huge headache waiting to happen for a DD... not directing this towards you, just a general statement.

True. Having brass fittings on it might have had something to do with it. It is now removed. The turbo is fine. Its just a serious PITA to clean up all the oil in my piping and intercooler.

I have been thinking about this and maybe I could make something that would work. Tomorrow I will have a look and see what we could do.

I had mine in the right front where the ABS actuator would be, since I don't have ABS. Maybe on the back side of the motor would be OK, since it might stay warmer. I dunno.

I'm just pissed that all my charge piping and intercooler is full of oil. I have to remove or possibly tilt my radiator back to get my intercooler out. I have to do it tomorrow night since I'll be at LSE on Saturday for the last hoorah.

You can see where my catch can was is this pic, which is old...
