I got my Tactrix cable today.:yumyum: Now i will be even more anal about all the little flaws in my car. And first thing i would like to ask people, is what is IAM? I know it should be at 16 i dont know why though. Mine is at 9:emo:. Used to be at 16 then when down to 12 and now is 9. how bad is it? And does it mean anything? Thanks a lot, Taras
KNOCK KNOCK..... whos there..... KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM yeah really I dont know... but I think its means your car is knocking... and its not the ponies (HP) trying to get out
yeah, i dont think its that. I guess you could be right it could be knock. Is there a way to tell if it is knocking?
I read about this a little more and it seems like it could be bad gas. Does anyone know of a gas station with better gas, i guess higher octane?
where r u pumping anyways? i say, u take a deep breath, go order that free pizza post i did, and when u get it, sit back and just eat it:biggrin:
yeah thats what i probably should do. I pump gas where ever. I dont even look. I just get premium. I think i should just get some good gas, reset the ECU and see what comes up.
I didn't see the original question answered so here ya go...I'll do my best. Ignition Advance Multipler = IAM IAM has to do with knock correction. IIRC 1 is the lowest, 16 being the highest. The higher the number the better or more knock free your engine is. The lower, the more prone to knock. You mentioned gas, but you didn't reflash you ecu or anything, right? your just pulling logs? I recently learned about the vinshu reset and a couple weeks ago during a tuning session on my car we did it after reflashing the ecu, because the IAM dropped to 8 i think. Here's what i learned to get your IAM up to 16, if it's possible. Drive in 2nd or 3rd gear and get your car to boost around 1-2psi. maintain that 1-2psi and keep your rpms steady. You have to left foot brake to do this. I don't remember doing it more than a few seconds because my IAM jumped up to 16. you should notice your IAM go up...and hopefully to 16. I think if you have true knock problems this may expose them....i think I hope that helps....
IAM is the ignition advance multiplier. It should be at 16. Period. If it is not at 16, that means the car has learned knock in large portions of the RPM band, and is pulling timing across the board to protect the engine. I would not reset the ECU, as you're more then likely just going to get knock in the same places and put undue wear on your engine before the IAM drops back down. You recently put on an aftermarket catback, correct? At the minimum, I think your wastegate duty cycles need to be re-tuned for that, and it's very possible that your timing needs to be re-tuned as well.
Ok, here is the scoop. Taras, plug one ear so this info stops inside of your head. When Shane had the car, it was tuned for Shell 92 v-power. Shane used the same gas all the time. When it was tuned, it was a agressive tune since it was always run on the same gas. You have stated that you run any gas. There is your problem. You will need to lower your timing a bit, or start filling up with Shell gas all the time. End of story. Russ
Thanks so much guys! This really helps! I will get some shell v-power todayvqnd see if my iam changes. I have another question too. At idle with ac off what should my vacuum be at?reading from ecu? I was reading on Nasioc that that trick with break boosting is not good becuase you are forcing iam to go up! Why I am asking about vacuum is becuase I found WallofTVs where he was talkjg about low iam and the cause was a little hole in the turbo inlet hose. So I am thinking I could have a leak in my bpv or somewhere else. I will try to post a log tonight. Thanks again, Taras
Yeah, i bet 2.5 is different from 2.0 Just ran a log again and i am back at 16. I will post the logs. I dont know how to go print screen on a pc laptop. And excel file would not go directly on the forum.
