I'm not new to Subaru's, infact my 2014 WRX will make Subaru #9, my first one being a "Brat". That dates me and I've been dragged, kicking and screaming into the 21st century by my two kids. So I usually muddle through the forums that most of you can manuever through in your sleep without even thinking about it. I'm 66 years old but going on 25. I still find myself going out on a back road and practicing wheelstands on my motorcycleand doing an occasional loop in my homebuilt experimental airplane. Tried growing up once, didn't like it much. I've road raced motorcycles, jumped off cliffs with my hangliders, but never had a fast car. I figured I'd better get one while I can still find my way home! I've been on this forum for about a month and have had a lot of help so far and look forward to the wealth of knowledge that you share at this forum. Oh yah, I'm into photographing anything but people. The above photo was taken the day after I picked up my WRX on an early morning drive.
Welcome. "Homebuilt experimental airplane" may be the best 3 word combination on this site. Details please!
This was the lastest of three aircraft built. It's called a Kitfox 4. It's powered by an 80hp Rotax (yes it's an opposed 4cyl liquid/oil/air cooled 4 stroke) the plane will take off and land in approx 300' and cruise at 100mph. You can open the doors while in flight which makes it a great photo platform. It's a two seat side by side and the frame is steel tube with fabric covering. The aircraft weighs 600lbs and can carry 600lbs of people and fuel. Very basic flight instuments. Mostly you fly it by the seat of your pants.
OP: "I figured I'd better get one while I can still find my way home!" ^This comment was also full of win in my book! El oh El Welcome to the forum!!! Post some more of your pics(new car related or not).
never too old for a WRX!!!! I'am going on # 7 & 1987 RX turbo coupe was my first Subaru. That thing was fast for a little 1.8 liter. Cheers
My reply is the same one that Al, of "TOOL TIME" always said. "I don't think so Tim" LOL Here are a few more photos the WRX
ehhh, skip the car, more pics of the plane(s)! Have any pics of the build process? I've seen similar builds using an eg33 motor out of the svx... Josh you know what to do with the rsvx now.
Sadly, I've just sold this plane so I could buy enough time to have my son start on his way to his pilots license. The Kitfox (the plane I just sold) was way to "squirrelly" on the ground. A low time pilot would end up "ground looping" that plane and make it hard to inspire confidence when just learning. I'll be looking for a plane that both he and I could fly. This is the second aircraft I built. It was called a Falcon and the aircraft weighed a total of 266 pounds, had a 38 foot wing span, stalled at 29mph and I would routinely shut the engine off and soar it for an hour or two at a time. Once the engine was shut off however, it could not be started again so it was manditory that I could glide back to the airport. This was called a Canard wing aircraft and it was powered by a single cylinder 277cc Rotax aircraft engine. It was also equipped with a "BRS" which is a ballistically fired parachute that deploys in less than 300' and brings you and the aircraft down under the canopy.
Nine Subarus...that's kinda like getting a hooker with the same color hair each time. Nice to see a car forum member that does something other than post all day from their cell phone. Also nice to see another geezer around here (I'm 56). I hope I'm still buying a car like this ten years from now rather than a Buick...on second thought, make that Lincoln since a Regal GS would be acceptable.
Welcome from another "mature kid". Purchased my first and current STi (2011 sedan) a couple of years ago and I'm 53.
