I just got a Black Wrx, and i was wondering, is it just me or does stock suby paint kinda blow? I mean, i dont expect it to be in perfect condition but there are just so many chips on the front bumper and on the hood, the tiny white nicks on my hood go all the way up to my windshield! Also, as anyone else realised that Suby black, looks more like a midnight blue? So what this thread was really about i guess is, has anyone else noticed this? And, would anyone know how much it would cost/where I should go/ If they had a hookup for a paint job, also what kind of paint would be a little more durable (Ill probably buy a 3M clear bra this time around however or have tintmasters do that clearshield stuff). I just want my suby to actually be Black, and im guessing repainting dark would be the best in terms of cost effecient because then they dont have to repaint things like the door sills or the inside of the trunk etc? Any other advice that could be given is appreciated, i have minor body damage, only a few little dents.
yeah it does suck.......get rear ended by a drunk driver, worked for me, also a storm got me new paint for the second time..
The real color name (at least for a 2002) is something like "Midnight Pearl," they didn't actually call it black.
So does this mean subaru has an actual Black now? Would it be cheaper for them to repaint it then a body shop? Is their new paint more durable then this old stuff?
Generally the dealerships don't do any body or paint work, but often the owner of the dealership also owns a bodyshop. So, no, doing it through the dealership wouldn't be any cheaper, and if you take it to a bodyshop, there's no reason you have to limit yourself to "Subaru" colors, though I'm sure that Subaru has has a true black at some point.
Got any ideas of all inclusive cost? with minimal dent removal? Im looking for some quality paint, nothing outrageous but durable. Also there shouldnt be any problems with having them just paint the exterior and leaving like the interior of the trunk and inbetween doors (door sills etc) should there? Would it be a decent savings to have them skip those portions?
oem paint is waterbased. as of 04 iirc. thats why it chips off so cleanly. when jerky bill deliveryguy backed into me, i had yellow paint on my car, he had no white paint on his. it doen't smear off, it just chips off like latex.
What is iirc? Also, are you serioud when you said go to maaco? because ive seen some pretty terrible maaco paint jobs.

You could also sand and prime it yourself to save alot on labor costs. I've only used Dupont paint before and it seems good, of course I have nothing to compare it to.
