I'm taking my Blizzaks off tonight, but I'm putting my old WinterFires on instead until it really warms up. I don't know if I'd put summers on just yet, it's still going to get cold at night and there's still a chance of snow.
I keep the winters on until it's consistantly over 40F during the day and not freezing most nights. It's not the ice, it's the fact that summer tires get hard as a rock under ~40F. I generally also wait until they've run the street sweepers and all the sand is off the roads too. Of course, that's with the Hakkas. If I was running Blizzaks I'd be itching to tear them off, because they get so gooey when it gets to 50F.
I need some new tires period. Winter or otherwise. I was keeping these crappay all seasons on until I was sure it wasn't going to be snowing again
With my lack of patience I'm guessing mine will be on within a week as long as there is no major weather changes. And the bike will be getting an oil change and should be fired up any time now too.
You realize the instant you put your summers on we'll get another 6 inches right? I usually put my summers on April 1st-15th, depending on weather.
^^^^Dont' say that brian. Actually I was thinking about this today....oh when do i put on the tires.........I so want to, but know I shouldn't it. I'll wait another couple weeks since I have to get the summers balanced again.
It's true. I took off my winters and 2 days later we got 8" and then we got the other blizzard 4-5 days later. Slid into no less than 5 intersections and nose dived into the side of the road and got hung up a block from my house! Summer tires FTW, if you have mucho grande cojones!!!
I want to so bad! As said before the blizzaks are no fun on dry roads. But the mornings still are pretty consistant with ice from all the water run off. Minnesota loves its late march snow falls. I am shooting for begining of April
I was happy with the still-new RE92's for the winter. They did very well, and even plowed through the deepest untouched snow I could find after the last storm. Now I'm wondering if I should go dedicated summers for this year. Have about 9k on the original tires.
I couldnt wait either. I put mine on today since I just got my new Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07 in the mail today!
alright count me in. Justed finished the swap now its time for a little cruise to remember what its really like to drive this car.
Til it's 40 or above for a week straight the winters will be staying on. They get much better traction then the 70's ever could that cold.
same here. i almost died in a sti with almost the same set up i have now last spring cause a friend put his 70's on too early.
according to a little bird who lives in my apartment, it's snowing in plymouth right now ... glad I didn't get those new tires yet (not that the ones I have are good in the snow either!! HAH!)
<<<<<<<wants another 8" snow fall.....sorry, but I want to go slydewayz one more time before summer! hahaha...I said that before the last snow too! What can I say, ILUVSNO!! Winter tires...FTW!
I hear ya Mark! It sounds like fun...but I would be a little nervous about my beginner 'slydewayz skillz!' Empty parking lots are a little safer. But I'll have to come check one out, I'll probably want to participate as soon as I see you go flying by a couple times!:naughty:
In all seriousness, they're not. We work very hard to make sure that RallyCross events are as safe as possible, and it's a (relatively) controlled environment. It's a great way to learn control skills, and nobody is going to make you feel bad about being new or inexperienced. If you want, I'm certain you could get a expereinced rallycross competitor to ride along with you and coach you, and/or let you ride along and learn from that. Odds on I'll be driving the Sentra, which uses a completely different driving style than an AWD car, but I'm always happy to drag along a passenger in that thing, it's just too much fun to fling it around in the dirt.
Are you talking about a cone style track in an open area? Or are you talking about dirt road racing?? I would hate to lose it and hit a tree or something!:eek3: Do you have a link to this event? Where will it be held?
Cone style track in an open area. Nothing substantial closer than 25 ft to the track. I will post the event information when it is provided by the event master, look for it int he Event Discussion area.
Yeah, looking good. Probably won't have the time to swap until the weekend (two cars to swap out), which is more or less when I would have done it anyhow.
