Finally got around to getting the new tire shaved down to match tread depth of the other three. I know there have been some questions out there about tire shaving, so if anyone is wondering, Norm's Tire in Little Canada did a great job and it was about $50.

do they mount it to some sort of fancy tire lathe to shave it? I'm just curious how it actually is done.

I didn't hang around to watch it, but as far as I know that's essentially the process. That's also why you're hard-pressed to find anywhere that does it because (I'm assuming) they don't get enough return on purchasing such expensive machinery. Well, that and it's probably more profitable to say, "You're flat is not repairable and since you have an AWD vehicle, you'll need 4 new tires".

I contacted a shop owner located in Shokapee area that does it for $20 a tire. Let me get back at this with more information.

I am always worried, but it has nothing to do with snow.

didn't have time to switch back to winters, hoping roads stay wet when i head home around 8-9, and not ice/snow covered or it'll be a long drive home. should have swapped them...
