This isn't really a mod/maint/or tech question but it's a question regarding my Subie nonetheless: For cosmetic reasons, how the crap am I supposed to safely remove the goopies the pinstriping left behind down both sides of my car. Looks like someone took a poop on it... Has anybody else done this yet and if so, is goo gone safe/okay to use on the clear coat and paint? I looked at the hardware store at a few different types of 'goop removers' and they all say "not intended for use on paint" or something similar. As always, thanks for your advice!
thats what she said...yes goo gone ftw... 1. squirt some on and let it soak in for a few mineuts 2.go at it with a towel, elbow grease and a credit card (thats what I have used before) 3. repeat till all is gone.
DO NOT use a credit card. Don't scrape your paint with things. GooGone and elbowgrease. It WILL come off.
Thanks, tried the WD40 last night and it rubbed right off the fender since it was a newer application of pin striping so the glue wasn't as stubborn. I got the pin striping off the car with a credit card and blow dryer, although feeling a little sick while scraping away at the paint, no sign of damage as of yet. I'm going to the store to get some goo gone for the harder glue and I will try it with just a towel and all my might. Afterwards, although it will be chilly I'm going to buff and wax the whole car and it should look good, hopefully no small scratches from the use of the credit card. Thanks for the tips!
pinstripe removing tool.. adapts to a drill and rubs it straight off... used it to take the pinstripes of mine.. took about 20 mins to do the whole car... http://www.rightlook.com/browseproducts/3M-Pinstripe-Removal-Wheel.html
well you must be a goose... ha ha ha I used a hand drill on mine.. so it doesnt spin crazy fast and heat up too much... never peeled the paint anywhere on my car and I had never used one before.. secret is to keep moving....
must have been crappy paint, i worked in a body shop for 2 years, never did i see one take the paint off.
its really not that hard to take them off by hand then rub it down with goo gone and/or finishing compound.
I'm a huge baby and it's been much too cold out. And windy here in the country - stuff blows in my eyes, my hair gets in my mouth and I can't see, just a huge mess. The garage is muttled with misc. engine parts and I'm afraid if I move anything Drapes will have a heart attack because he has everything in their "piles". Well, that's partially true because there are a few other things I could move and make it work but I'm a little lazy and kind of sick right now. Slept until noon today since I called in sick to work so I'll be more lively tonight.
