I know i haven't posted much and am usually lurking around here and 2rs.com and naisoc. But here is a question for all you guys(off course i've search all the forum that is why I'm turning to you guys.), My 01 has an 05 wrx engine in it and am running the original rs gearbox. What my questions is, is that if and i mean if in the future i decided that i want to switch to sti short block of a sti of the same year. What kind of mod would i have to do? Would it bolt right on? And what kind of power would i Expect form it? Also thinking about strengthing my gear box with a rallispec sti ra gear worth it or not? Also like i said still runing stock so tuning is a most soon and when the swap was done the stock alarm with taken off. Need to know good pro to do install of alarm and remote start for it and how much they charge to install (something like a compustar swss-as)? Sorry first subaru so HELP? Also on the alarm anyone know how to install compustar swss-as on infiniti g35x without losing my a key?

here link to gear for rallispec

    http://www.rallispec.com/prod_trans.htm

I have more put will add them later. Plus sorry did not know where to put this.. Also to tbone I'll try to get back to you about the ic have to figure out if the installer will replace the my ic he broke or not?

my knowledge of the newer stuff is minimal, and I know I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. but I'll get this started. my understanding is your 05 WRX block should be a 2.0l...right? didn't start using the 2.5l in all WRXs until '06....

you could swap the shortblock (i.e. keep your current heads and intake manifold), and increase your displacement. which would increase your low end torque, aswell as spool time (more air = faster spool). this would also allow you to keep your current wiring. if you use the STi heads and intake mani, you'll also have to use the STi wiring harness....

from what I've heard, the RA gearset is overkill.

like chux said the 05 wrxs are 2.0ls. so the STi short block should just bolt right in there. infact one of the members here, Justin. just did a sti short block swap on his wrx. you are looking at gaining more displacement for more low end torque and faster spool. (as chux said)

for mods to support it you will need to have it tuned to adjust the base map to your new found displacement.

as for teh tranny, the RS gearbox is essentially the same as the wrx with slightly different geas in it. you will be fine with it, unless you start to abuse it, in which case the RA gearset is a good upgrade.

If you are doing a shortblock swap I would also recommend doing cams at the same time.

An alternate swap to look into would be the suprisingly unpopular 2.5 longblock swap but not using the AVCS or the wiring. You get better cams and the lower compression ratio all factory assembled. I did this swap and love it.

Pick up the JDM RA gearbox, built as hell and not much in the way of mods needed. Actually a really simple swap if you have a decent garage or workspace.

On RS25.com: PM Supermoose, he knows everything about every subaru swap ever. and is really friendly and helpfull.
