how much would they be? include and exclude labor? and how many kinds of different swaps are there? also time it would take. any estimates would be appreciated
i hear about 5k for a wrx swap, 10k for STi (no 6spd), and around 15k for full sti swap. that should be parts and labor. as for time i know garage tuning will do one in a week, but they are also in california. for a less expereinced swapper it could take 1week - 1 month to get it going. as for kinda of swaps there the usdm wrx, jdm wrx, usdm sti, jdm sti, 2.2l turbo, H6, basically anything thats EJ and some things that arnt can be swapped in.
i found wrx and sti swaps but do shops or whoever do the 2.2t swaps? i havent found anything about the 2.2t yet and it seems like everyone is doing it
EJ motors are like legos, everything fits together if you want it to. With that said, you could put just about any EJ series motor into your car. There are quite a few options: EJ18 EJ20 USDM WRX EJ20G EJ22 EJ22T EJ25 EJ257 All of those motors should bolt up to your current heads if your goal was keeping your current wiring harness. If you plan on swapping wiring harnesses, then your options are unlimited for heads. A popular setup is using WRX heads and wiring harness with an EJ257/22T/etc... This allows you to use any of the available ECU tuning methods available today such as AccessPort, UTEC, ECUTek, etc. Price for a swap? Not even sure on that. If you are mechanicly inclined I'm sure you could take the project on yourself. There are a few local guys that would help you get the engine in and out of your car. Wiring harnesses take time and diagrams and lots of work. That is best left to professionals or experienced folks. You could possibly pay someone to do the wiring harness for you, then do the engine work yourself, that would probably save you considerable time and money. Just some ideas.
or you could sell your car and buy mine! that would be easier. OK, i realize that might not be what you want, dont want to junk up threads with ads, but yeah, buying a pre-swapped car takes away a lot of the little headaches.
i know some places, i think eastcoast swappers will do your wiring harness for you if you send it to them with some $$$. i also now that garage tuning has a set fee to put any subaru motor into any subaru. http://www.garagetuning.com/gt_swaps.html http://www.eastcoastswappers.com/index-1.html even if they dont offer a specific 2.2l swap you could prolly ork something out with them to get one.
would love to buy a pre-swapped car but i want a coupe and not to have to drive a thousand miles away. money is an issue but time is more of an issue for me especially without a car. cant ride the bike in the winter, its not fun!
well, mechanically speaking, subaru engine swaps are pretty easy. Jason isn't the first to say that subarus are legos! if you want to do an EJ22t swap, with the origional heads/intake (same wiring). I'd be able to do the harness for ya. I've got a number of great diagrams and a nice pinout of the OBDI EJ22 harness. and having done it once before, could pretty easily strip it down to the bare necessities. then you'd just have to install it, connect a ground, Batt+, IGN+, CEL, tach, temp, and oil pressure wires. there's a guy on USMB that will do it for $350....I think that's pretty steep, but it is a big job.....I'd probably do it for ~$200. it took me about 10 hours this time.
just remember, the EJ20 is going to be OBDII....which is a whole different can of worms as far as wiring is concerned.
