What parts are required or recommended if I'm going to get a larger sway bar for my '06 wrx? Are mounts and bushings that match the bar required? Are endlinks recommended? How about size, the car is a DD, but I would like a little less body roll. 22mm ok, or is 25 better?
Most of the bars are adjustable. Most come with mounting hardware but they usually dont supply endlinks, which you should get to replace while your in there. I have a Progress bar and it works great, but Perrin is another company that makes them along with many others. Talk to Josh @ ImportImage, he can hook you up.
Don't get a 25mm without getting a larger front swaybar, its just going to make it oversteer too much. A 22mm adjustable bar is fine, helix makes a good cheap one, you can get good deals on whiteline which is nice too. Make sure you buy endlinks, the plastic stock ones are crap and the larger bar is just going to make them flex more. Again, I'd recommend either helix or whiteline, I've had both, they both work well. i would also recommend a front swaybar and endlinks up there too.
A 20-22-24 adjustable bar is great for a WRX. Endlinks are really nice to put on at the same time, but not required. The plastic links will flex quite a bit and the bushings are like marshmellows, but they will work. If you are going any larger than a 24 in the rear you really need a larger front bar. I am currently running a mix of Helix and Whiteline bars on my car and have 0 complaints about either.
:-0 !!! 27mm is huge. i have a 20mm and i love it, still understeers some. but has enough to it where when driven right can be a blast and a half. endlinks are pretty easy to get at, so if you cant get em now, dont sweat it, they are easy to do later.
So is there any truth to GT4, saying that rear swaybar stiffness should be more than the fronts? hahahaha
yea what he said, endlinks is a must on any aftermarket swaybar in my opinion, stock ones are just to easy to bend and break. Also Cobb has a package you can buy on there site to make it easier. I have Both there F/r bars with Kartboy Endlinks and i think its pretty good.
I am running the factory 20mm with aftermarket (Helix) endlinks on my 03 and that combo works pretty well for me.
There 25mm and they come with mounts but I just used my stock mounts. Check out Rallysportdirect.com they've got a few other bars along with cobb and thats where i got mine.
i have a 25 mm (i think) hotchkis rear with stock links, seems to work fine, and i have an SPT front.
Most come with mounts bushings but not endlinks. The stock rears are piddly (and plastic) so upgrading those is pretty much a must but the fronts are not quite as bad. Also, the cobb bars are hollow iirc. Lighter but overall diameter is larger to a comparable solid bar. If you want to try my car out let me know. 06wrx with stock fsb and whiteline 22mm (3-way) adjustable rsb and kartboy endlinks. Only other suspension mods for now are rims/tires and tic cowl stays.
Yeah, that sounds very close to what I'm looking for. I may get both front and rear if I can get a good package deal. I've seen some very good deals on those kartboy endlinks.
I run a custom 28 solid front and a 24-27 whiteline rear with poly bushing and solid endlinks. the rear required that i get the heavy-duty sway bar mounts, I would say that i turn in early more often then not, so more drifting then understeer (the back end of my gc is light....so it comes out easily) and that i swap out for a 24 front and 22 rear for gravel
I am still running stock endlinks on my RS... :eek4: While they do flex a lot, they are not as breakable as some people are led to believe. I will go to aftermarket, they are just soooo hard to justify spending $100 on! That could spent be other bushings. (note that I have 9k springs so the rear sway isn't doing too much...)
I did mine myself, it's basically steel thats been treated and painted. I made it to work around what i hope to get done this summer, an ej 33. I'd just get a whiteline bar if you wan't to go big, it'd be easier/cheaper in the end.
Well, I went with Whiteline. I purchased a 22mm front bar, and a adjustable 24mm rear bar, and kartboy endlinks. Can't wait!
