sooo i have been thinking about getting some springs for my rs for the when spring comes rolling around here soon...and i have heard some good things about the Tein S-Techs, and some bad and not to get them..? so im just kind of curious on what everyone has to say about them..good, bad whatever. Get some inputs on if some people have had them, or still do. Thanks everyone!
i just put mine on last saturday.. the ride is not as bad as people say and its a sick drop....but yes it will wear your struts out pretty fast but whoopy doo just upgrade to some kyb agx's when that happens...not to mention it all depends on what your are looking forrrr outta your car
If I recall the S-Techs are good if you want to lower your car and that's it. If you want actual performance, there are way better options available.
yyeea, well right now i just have an rs...and im not really going to be auto crossing it or anything, just want a good clean, good-looking bugeye..so yyeeaa im just kinda curious to what everyone thinks of them!
If the additional wear on your struts is not a concern, the S-Techs make the car look very good. If you want something that's a bit more of a comprimise, Prodrive springs are really, really popular. I have some Eibach Pro springs on stock struts and I'm pretty happy with them.
do you have any pictures of your car with them so i can see what those are like? im kinda just shoppin around seeing what i like most..
You'd be better off with a set of STI takeoffs, Prodrives, SPTs or RCEs. The only thing the Teins will do is lower your car past the optimum roll center (AKA it'll handle worse, not better) and kill your struts quickly. Also, putting Teins on a set of AGX's will void the warranty as they lower too much. To run the STI takeoffs or the SPTs you'll need to get 04+ strut tops. Might as well upgrade to Group N tops while you're in there. One guy on here had a set of 04 STI springs for 60ish, between those and a set of Group N tops all around you'd be slightly more expensive than just a set of Prodrives, but you'd have a decent drop and much better handling.
yyea i agree...but if i do get some springs i should prob get some struts too just cause im alomst at about 110k miles anyway..
Pm STIDan if you are looking for some S-Techs I know he is redoing some stuff on his car and just removed a set of them.
if you want a sping rate in the front that is stiffer and a rate in the back that is softer than stock and something that makes your car handle like crap I say go for it!
haha hey, im just looking for suggestions here..if you arnt a fan, maybe a suggestion of what i should go for..?
prodrive, stiffer spring rates but will not blow up the stock struts from being too low or stiff. I've got the prodrives on my 03 wrx wagon and I love them. also 75% of the members hewre have them as well, do a search and you'll find 4254325 threads on here. here http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19002&highlight=prodrive+springs
They'll lower his somewhere around 10mm, possibly more. But they will give him very close spring rates and a very close (if not identical) drop to the SPTs. And they can be had for very cheap. He'll just need 04 Group N tops to make them work. Or just regular 04 tops if he wants to go cheap, there are plenty of stock takeoffs around.
^all the above is true...but the s-techs came on struts for me so when those wear out i have another set to put them on so i dont really have to worry for the time being
Once again, it's not just the blown strut issue. It's the fact that your car will handle worse than stock.
anyone have pics with the prodrive springs on so i can see what it would look like? and how much they might run?
Everyone says this, but fact is that the s-techs are stiffer, just not that much. The problem is that the stiffness is increased in the front more than the back. Here is a good link for spring rates that I use.... http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32 I've had the s-techs on for about 2 years now. I can't say much for their performane because I haven't experienced anything else.... but, they're inexpensive, look really nice, and cause everyone on the forum to think your crazy for having them... Here is a link to some bad pics of my car with the s-techs on.... http://mnsubaru.com/forums/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=670
either way they are wayyy unbalanced and ride like **** over rough roads and handle like crap, my buddies sti had them and he hated them. It says right on the box, "for style" or style spec some crap like that.
people always have there own opinions...make your own..i have s techs you wanna feel how they ride pm me and i'll give you a ride sometime...
hahaha nahh not yet..when i get my tax stuff back im gunna get some springs, im just debating what i wanna buy!
Well, read the DOWNGRADE part of this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15086558&postcount=1
This would be interesting.... Can we get some springs and do a simple skid pad comparison? I have a g-tech meter and some s-techs. We would need to install multiple different springs on one car and see what the effect is. Wouldn't this settle all debates?
^^^ hmmm kinda like this idea....that and i can fianlly get to know more people on here besides the few i already know haah.
What's the debate? It's a fact that S-Techs will make your car handle worse. The only thing we'd be proving is how much worse they make it handle.
I will be happy to g-tech the bugeye once the Flex's are in and I properly tune them for the car.... can't wait! Maybe we should have a designated set of wheels/tires to give it a solid test.
we get the point that people say the handling sucks...if its just a dd and its all for looks theres nothing wrong with the s-techs
yeah, I'd hate for my daily driver to handle awesome and have stage 2 power since its just around town:roll:
soo i thought i would bump this thread up and now get some opinions on either the Tanabe GF210 or the DF210
