I was looking at buying a center gauge pod for my 02 wrx which fits 3 gauges. What are the best 3 gauges to get?(EGt, oil, Boost...) Also what is the best sounding BOV and what is the best intake system? And what is the best suspension setup? Let me know, Thanks. And the last thing is where can I find it at the best deal? Evan
"Best" is VERY subjective. No two people are going to agree. Center gauge pod = modified stock pod with faceplate (search NASIOC for "derres catalano" ) gauges = boost, EGT, oil pressure (or oil temp) BOV = no idea, "best sounding" is subjective intake = stock setup vendors = browse Classified forums on NASIOC, no one place is going to have the best deals on all these things
The best guages undoubtedly are Defi. As for the types of gauges those three are the most common. With defi, if you get Fuel pressure and Boost the Control unit tells you one other perameter as well that has to do with the two in relation to each other, but you probably won't need that, just get the three that you picked earlier. As for intake system you don't need to get one, one of the biggest mistakes made is getting an aftermarket intake, the stock airbox will flow enough cfm to feed any car under 400 HP, that and the MAF is placed in a certain location in the intake that is used to calculate the air coming in. An aftermarket intake will just cause you problems, just get a high flow, non-oiled panel filter such as Perrin's, oiled types, like K&N can get oil in you MAF and screw it up. Same with the BOV, the stock unit has been known to hold up to about 18 PSI without leaking, an atmospheric model will cause a lean condition in between shifts which can cause problems. But if you insist on a BOV, get a Worx Tuning which can be changed from full recirc to Full atmospheric venting. What kind up suspension you looking for, full coil-over system, new strut setup, or just springs; also what will it be used for; autocross, drag racing, street, driveability? I'm not to educated there, all i know if you want to upgrade just springs, Prodrive's set is one of the best, but very expensive at around $299 for the set. First few mods that should be done to get good Horsepower gains and reliability are: Uppipe - help spool up turbo faster, get a unit with no Catalytic converter, this will stop the chance of it from disintegrating and allowing chunks to get into your turbo. Downpipe - also helps turbo spool by allowing less backpressure, with this alone, no other mods, i ran 13.9 second 1/4 mile. Rest of exhaust - less backpressure, etc. Some form of Engine management, whether it be full user tunable or not, every other mod will greatly benefit form this. Work on those few... My REX is going on jackstands in about a week for about 6 months and should be an entirely different machine next spring, hoping for UTEC, exhaust, new brakes, and some other shtuff. If anyone needs help with any mods let me know, i work cheap (Free) on any WRX.
thanks for your help. Right now all I have for my intake is the K&N drop in kit. Is there something else I should do to it or not. Like take something out or just leave it
I'll save Joel and Russ a few extra posts by providing a link! http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=59&SearchTerms=intake
Thanks I will not do anything at all then. So what brand of uppipe and downpipe do you guys think I should get.

That would be "rich" since you have lost the fresh charge of air. less air same fuel = rich

It is important that it is a bellmouth design. Upipe: Just make sure the piece has thick flanges I would send both pieces to get them jet hot coated as well

But yeah, you'll run rich from already metered air that the engine compensates for that is now being blown off into the atmosphere, causing more fuel than needed.

It is a 4 inch bellmouth that tapers down to 3 inches the rest of the way. For uppipe i've heard good things about Vishnu's, also B&B are nice but spendy, i'm gonna probably go all B&B for rest of exhaust; catback and uppipe.
