if you have an ej22T in your posession, post up what you are planning to do to it, and how far you have gotten. me: 1992 ej22T block and heads (ported heads) stock turbo for a little while (tdo4 next) perfect power sm6 for management stock forester intercooler manual boost controller 11lb flywheel UD pulley erz bellmouth DP currently its in the trunk of my oldsmobile sitting in the garage. yes sounds pretty lame to begin with, but i hope to be in the arena with stock wrxs for now, i know my car weighs nothing so it shouldnt be too hard
This is a really good idea!!! I wonder where you got it from Ok, but really, here are my ideas for mine, 91 ej22t with around 100,000 miles (only paid 260 bucks! ) CP pistons (9.0:1 compression ratio) Pauter Rods I'm still back and forth on the heads, so I want to port and polish the stock heads or use my sohc heads from my rs? I know they flow better, but from what I've heard, I can get some ej22t cams for next to nothing and I have a friend that will port and polish for less than 1000. So what do you guys think? t3/t04e turbo 2.5in turboback exhaust Hydra nemisis standalone spearco core top mount intercooler ACT lightweight flywheel Exedy organic clutch (as long as it lasts) not sure on what injectors to use yet (I have 550's right now) 99 intake manifold probably alcohol injection thinking about doing the 2.35 stroker mod with a phase I 2.5RS crank there might be some other things, but I can't really remember right now.
What:EJ22t Why:CLOSED DECK DUH! What: Phase 1 EJ22 (NA) internals Why: all forged, and goes w/ reason for heads What: Phase 1 EJ22 (NA) heads (P&P) Why: Gives Stock ej22 (NA) compression (9 or 9.5:1) What: TD04 Why: BOOST, and i should be able to use all stock wrx stuff What: WRX IC Why: nothing bigger will fit for a TMIC (i think) What: 3" TBE Why: Less back pressure, faster spoolage hmmm.... now whats the problem here. i dont have a ej22t!!!! although i did find one for $800, that was comp tested, leak tested, steam cleaned and had <50k on it. (i need $800)
so can this little club include certain closed deck wrx motors? namely the ej20g, if so, then i know myself and esperunit can join in on the fun, and anyone else that may have a ej20g, don't think there's anyone else though.
well first of all, turn my car into a manual (winter project). i will be kinda limited on funds after that, unless i can manage to sell my honda, in that case most likely i would do header, uppipe, and track down a apexi power fc and commander, then get it tuned and get some numbers for her.
Are they really forged? I can understand switching them for the compression reason, but I'm having a hard time believing that they are forged. I'll search a little bit and get back to ya on this one did some searching and found that they have forged rods and crank but the ej22t has a forged crank and the rods are forged too. I think the pistons are moly coated cast pistons so I'd keep the rods and crank and just change the pistons.
Talked to Erik tonight about this, and yes i have decided to keep the ej22t crank and rods, but use the NA psitons. unless the rods have a diffrent stroke or something. dont under estimate what goes into the 2.2ls! these things last forever for a reason!
That's sorta what I meant (I sorta confused myself for a while there). I'm still trying to figure out what pistons I should use with the 2.35 stroker. I think I'm going talk to crawford or axis and find out what I need. Once we all have these done, we should all have a ej22t meet at a dragway or something and have some fun
isnt the 2.35l down with ej25 pistons on a ej22 block w/ ej20 heads? lol it can be a scubie drag race! find out who has built the best ej22t!
To make the 2.2 a 2.35 you need a ej25 phase I crank. You can still use any heads you want as I don't think that will adjust displacement. I'm still iffy on whether to use the sohc from my car right now, or use the ej22t heads. I know the sohc flow better but I've heard that if you p&p the stock heads they can be awesome for a turbo application. I guess we'll find out this summer. Another question for you guys, what are your timelines for getting all this done? I have a bet with my step dad that this motor will be in my car by the middle of august 06. The funny part is that the bet is for one dollar, but I'm going to spend thousands on this to get at least 300 at the wheels before 5000 rpm
for the head question. you should have both a set of ej22t heads and your SOHC heads. so you in theory could try both of them and see which works the best. also i bet with some more research you can find an answer. as for the timeline i prolly wont get a block until i start work next summer. (positive cash flow = necccesary for car parts) but the neat thing with what i wanna do is that i can run the setup NA or turbo becuase of the moderate compression ratio.
I totally agree but this is the response I got from garage tuning when I asked them what I should do,
can i join this lil club also? i got a ej257 in mine. ans why dont u guys use wrx heads? isnt that the port are bigger then the sohc rs port and the wrx cams are better for turbo?
hummm...... I have the "INFAMOUS"..... EJ22T WRX heads JUN 272* cams w/ springs, retainers, shims (I go here, I have 2.2L compare to 2.0L) Crawford billet rods and pistons, 8:1 CR balance rods and pistons w/ pins rotate balance crank GT30R dual bearing turbo V-mount intercooler/radiator; aluminum 160* thermopstat oil cooler 840cc injectors port-match and slightly ported intake/exhaust ports and polishing WRX ECU, engine bulk harness, etc AccessPort w/ StreetTuner .......I have the EJ22T, yes, and some 2.5L DOHC heads.
I guess I should mention what I have right now... the ej22t stock 91 ej22t oil cooler spearco top mount intercooler t3/t04 turbo 99 intake manifold act lightweight flywheel exedy clutch (will be smokin when the engine is installed) phase II SOHC heads Hydra Nemesis Standalone Ecu 550cc injectors walbro fuel pump assorted gauges and wideband I think that's it, but hopefully I will have a phase I crank pretty soon and some forged pistons
EJ22T Shortblock 2.5L Phase I crankshaft 2.5L Length Pauter Rods 2.2L CP forged pistons ARP Headstuds WRX Heads P&P'ed Titanium springs, retainers, etc... UR 1000cc injectors/fuelrails/FPR Undecided on the kit provider, but GT35R turbo. Exedy clutch/flywheel PPG straight-cut 1-4 with synchro-engagement and billet selector forks.
Oh, and I'll probably use W/I or Meth/Injection somewhere along the line. ANd possibly Nitrous if I can't get the snail spooled...but I dont' forsee a problem with that.
alright peoples what do you think these set ups will put down for power? and how long do you think it will take ya to put it together. i bet the set up i listed could do 250AWHP at the high end, with some nice injectors. it would be limited by turbo, and using OEM spec internals. cool thing is that when i get an ej22T it shouldnt take veryt long to get it going. since all of the parts needed are easily found as wrx take offs. so i will say <1yr from getting ej22T.
My goal is >500whp on racegas. Whatever it decides to do on 92/93 pump gas is fine with me as long as the 500+ on racegas is achieved.
havent you ever heard the saying "aim low so you dont disapoint yourself?".. if you say 350 whp you wont be as dissapointed when u get 480
Well then... I want at least 100whp out of my beast  but more realistically... around 300 would be nice.
No, I tend to be an optimist. And if I am building an engine meant to withstand lots of power. Then I make the heads capable of flowing more. Then I strap a turbo capable of 650hp on it. Then fuel it with enough fuel to handle the output of the turbo. Then I think it isn't too much to ask of my motor to make 500whp on race gas. Especially considering weaker Subaru blocks with the same turbo and smaller fuel injectors are making 500hp on race gas with similar setups. I think my goals aren't really that lofty.
ahhaa. see your setup includes using the stock Legacy turbo correct? which is good for 8-11 psi. the TD04 can easily push 16, thus giving me more room to play with. also w/ higher compression it shoudl take less boost to achieve teh desired HP levels. also remeber that the legacy sport sedan came w/ 180 hp @ 8.65psi (un-intercooled) stock. (dont make me resort to my uber chessy equation of how to get 300whp out of it.)
You know Erik, I bet you could sell your stocker on t3h ebAy and get enough money from it to buy a WRX stocker from the very same ebAy.
humm powerwise....... good tuning with the GT30R will be enough for me. I want to push 400whp...but if not.....it's all good... I can get there with 100oct
bump from the dead! the see some revised plans. heres what i am thinking now EJ22T - honed, polished, yada yada yada..... TWE(wiseco) Pistons - 8:1 comp (maybe 9:1 not sure yet) Eagle rods USDM WRX Heads - PnP TWE Valve setup - new valves and springs ect... JDM STi (v4/v5ish) cams - (might go aftermarket here) OEM Crank - all balanced to 8k. Cobb AP VF22 - maybe a vf23 (or even bigger :biggrin
Wow...a new CLUB! Bikerboy has mine, from LegacyPGT. Gonna make it a 2.35L with an STi Crankshaft, new forge pistons and rods, wrx heads ported and polished w/ upgraded internals yada yada...Hoping for 8300-8500RPM redline...
haha....well I'm going to ditch the WRX heads idea.....my NA 2.5L DOHC heads are good stuff. I'll be stuffing in a EJ22T complete motor in the next month or two after I get the wiring figured out and done. Then take out the "first" EJ22T and rebuild it when the funds are available.
I finally got the pistons for mine . So I'm heading up to MN either today or tomorrow to start putting stuff together. The final mod list looks something like this... Block: 2.2t stroked to 2.35 STi crank STi Rods TWE Pistons 9:1 CR Heads: 01 SOHC from an RS TWE Stg II cams Titanium valve springs titanium retainers stainless valves (oem size) Cometit head gaskets Tranny: 96 JDM WRX tranny ACT Full face organic clutch ACT lightened flywheel Misc: Turbo- ported and polished t3/t4 (around a 50 trim) FMIC Coolingmist Meth Injection Lightened Crank pulley Aeromotive FPR 83lb fuel injectors (around 850cc's... I think) Larger parallel fuel rails 2.5" catless exhaust (will probably move up to 3" sometime this summer) 35mm tial external wastegate greddy atmospheric bov obviously all random bits are ported and polished by Justin Koyo radiator I think that's it, hopefully it should be all done in the next two weeks and tuned by Phil within the month. But we'll see how parts arrive and what happens
^OOOOOoooooOOooooo the oarts are finally arriving. i still dont think GT has sent my springs yet. hey kelly if you wanted we could try boltin my 3" TBE up to your car. it might fit, and i am currently not using it.
That would be really interesting to try... I don't think it will fit, but you never know until you do it Thanks for the offer, we'll see how everything goes the next few weeks and if we can get the car to the point of having to worry about a downpipe.
eh, after lots of consideration i'll probably just end up having forged internals put into my 2.0 block and adding a disco potato and SOHC heads, and redo the valvetrain to take 8k revving. I have so much less money to spend on cars these days, and I want to have a car that can compete in SM. Probably getting a smaller customer made IC that fits with a stock front bumper beam as well.
^ disco potato =/= disco pope --------> does not compute! on another note. i was looking at TWEs shim/bucket kit. at what level of crazyness does this become a good idea?
Old thread brought back from the dead. Ej22t short block, ej25 phase 1 heads/intake mani TD04? (still trying to figure this out) MAF Translator Pro (I think?) FMIC Injectors...? I'm still trying to find a 100% answer on what headgaskets I need, and what i should do about injectors. So any help there is greatly appreciated. As for power...Hopefully as good as WRX but hopefully better Like I said, I'm not sure on some of this stuff, so if anyone wants to chime in...
