I don't know if any of you will get into this but I thought it might not be a bad idea to have a "house project" thread. This way people who are thinking of dong a job or project can post a good source for materials, labor, techniques, YouTube videos, tutorials or whatever...
I'm doing a laminate flooring job right now in my place. I picked up the Laminate for $.99 psf from Menards when it was on sale last week, I sell the cotton underlament and did the demo myself. I've never put this type of floor down before so I'm learning as I go. Before: Durring: And as of Sunday night:
Looks good Ted. I'm doing the same thing, so far I have done both of my kid's bedrooms. Master bedroom is next.
here is an awesome website for DIY info: http://www.diychatroom.com/ i learned a lot of good stuff to help me out with planning projects in our new place. so far we have painted 3 rooms and swapped out a bunch of doorknobs. next on the list is remodeling the bathroom and kitchen, adding roof ventilation to the garage and a heater so i can work out there this winter.
I've done a bunch of floors for people with this kind of stuff. It's easy as long as you pay attention to the details.
I just did laminate flooring in my mother's kitchen. Once rolling we flew. A white rubber mallet was awesome to use instead of that silly puller tool that came with. Once i get my car done I need to cut and dig a drain into the corner of the garage. The spring thaw sees over an inch of water in that corner of the garage. The right way would be to jack the garage up, lay some 8" block all the way around, and then poor 2" on top of the old slab, but takes a lot more time and money.
I've never put this stuff in before. Out a high school I did gym floors for a summer and that was fun for about a week. Looks good! My dads talking about doing the floors in the basement of there house and this is one of the options he was looking at.
