does anyone know how to put the timing belt back on? and where everything is supposed to be...??/? thanks if you can help... wagonL
take the cams, and make it so the marks or the cam gears are pointing directly up. (there hsould be 1 notch in teh timing belt cover over each cam gear to aid in alignign them) then take you crank gear. and make the knotch in that point straight up too. there should also be a knotch some where above the crank gear to aid in aligning it up. put on the new belt (i recommned the subie oem belt, since it has alignment marks) line up the yello lines ont he belt with ethe marks ont he gears, and give it a shot. if the belt slips when tenioning, you will need to o it again. 1 tooth can be up to 30 degrees off. if you get all of those marks to point up you will be in the ball park. FY?I on the crank gear there is a tab, and a knotch. the tab is used for the crank sensor (dont break it off or you need a new gear) make sure to use the knotch for timing purposes (they may or may not be in the same place on the gear) good luck.
You've got DOHC, right? Should be pretty similar to this... http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/modifications/drivetrain/tbeltwrx/tbeltwrx.html The key is getting the right marks on the pulleys lined up to the right things, there should be single and double marks on the cam pulleys, the single marks line up to points on the engine. When I did mine, I just rotated everything to line up the marks when the old belt was still in place so everything moved at once. It was a bit tricky getting the new belt back on without them moving, and mine was a SOHC. I ended up putting a breaker bar with socket holding the right cam pulley in place, I just didn't have enough hands to hold everything and get the last idler back on. Joel
put it back on? does that mean it fell off...dohc is an interference motor, if it came off, 99.999999% your engine is shot
yes but certain year 2.5l engine were DOHC, and if its interference. interference: if the timing belt falls off while runningg/driving the valves will stick into your pistons cause hella damage.
