A friend just pulled over for the second time for "tint issues." The police officer in Mankato pulled her over for tint and nothing but. The same cop had pulled here over once before for super-dark tint. She had the tint re-done to 35% on the sides. I was under the impression that tint was not a primary offense and therefore you could not be pulled over for just that. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks! Steve B
It all depends, I have 22% tint and ive been hasseled about it twice alone this summer. Some people get away with it, some dont.
On my last car which had 25% I got pulled over several times just for that in both Maple Grove and Edina. I otherwise have absolutely no tickets, just 5 $100 tickets for window tint. They're not even fix-it tickets. But then you have to pay to play if you want to run your tint that dark. I was totally unaware of limits since I bought mine like that from someone in CO where the legal limit is that dark. However I don't feel mad that I got ticketed the first time unknowingly because ignorance isn't an excuse for not knowing the laws here. Fine is pretty steep though, I think something around $60 would be more proper.
You could probably have taken the first one to court with that explination and gotten it thrown out. The other 4.... your on your own.
I dont like to tint my windows becuase i dont like getting pulled over. that, and I dont want cops to get the impression i'm trying to hide something/my activties in my car.
everyone tints thier car...i dont care who can see me, thats why i go tintless...but some cars really need it..fuji your car is one of them!
i have 35% tint and i havent got pulled over for it, i just keep my windows down when i go to university because its an easy excuse for cops to pull you over there, otherwise just normal driving ive never noticed a cop look at it.
tint = less sleeper effect. not to mention it will cost you 200 to do, and the endless amount of tickets. this money could be better spent on exhuast or tires or something.
I tinted my car to keep it that much cooler. Yes it draws attention but 35% is hardly that dark anyways. Roll with your windows down if you are scared.
um...I think I blew that already...so I'm gonna get a super dark limo tint in the back of my wagon, and probably 50% on the front windows. my uncle's done all his cars himself, and is going to show me how to do a good job...hopefully before school starts :roll:
never got pulled over yet with 7% tint in back 3 and 22% in front. Even with the big wing and my car being black, I've driven by and in front of police in my area. I drove in front of a police in Brooklyn Park on Brklyn Blvd where he was right behind me and I live 2 blocks from the PD where I live.... no issues. My bro has 22% all around... same, no issues. We drive through Minneapolis everyday to get to work.
..then my question is, where can you go to get windows tinted here in the area? Yes, I'm from the Twin Cities but I've been out of country for the last 9 years. So, excuse me for asking but I'm still trying to learn where things are.
I have 38% and I have never had a problem with it. I got my tint in savage @ solarshield on hwy 42. Never had any problems w/cops. 50% is the legal limit but you can get darker almost anywhere but you have to sign a waver.
FYI: Minnesota tint law Here's the law. I've had no issues on my legacy, which has 50% front, 35% rear. I checked this out because I want to have my WRX tinted, but my car is already sticking out being all black with an APEXi exhaust. With the black interior I think I'm going with 50% all around. (Why?
