I'm thinking of getting my windows tinted next week. What do you have yours tinted at? I know 50% on all windows is what is legal in MN. Anyone been fined for 50% front and 35% on the entire back?

20 on the back window 35 on the doors and 35 across the top of the windshield. I wish I would of gone darker sometimes.

I have 50% in the front, 35% everywhere else, 35% strip on windshield. Got pulled over in wisconsin they tested everything and it was more like 44% up front, and 32% in the back. Got a written warning, no fix it ticket though. He said i could keep the front.

I have been stopped 3 times, one written warning and 2 verbals. One of the times I got pulled over we were on our way to pick up Beths car from getting it tinted as dark as mine. LOL

Steve - o: I am guessing that was a ND ticket???

Yeah the ND ticket was $20. It costs $100 to have the windows retinted w/o the cost of removal.... so basically I can get 4 more before it's cost effective to re-tint

The other was in MN... but I got out of it.

I was talking to the OP (forgot to log out ). Sometimes I think tinted window tickets and age are somehow related.

Also, I agree... 50% is a waste of money.

I've gotten ticketed before with Tint on my Camaro (7 or 8 years ago). I just don't want an excuse to be pulled over. To check other things. I'm not sure if 50/35 will be that noticable. Look at all the SUV's and Minivans. They are EXTREMELY DARK!

50 on the front doors and 35 on the rear doors/rear window. Never been stopped for harassed.

I had 35 all around on the last car and found it too hard to see some things at night. 50 solved that.

I heart my 50% all around. However, I'm not a fan of really dark tint, and I think the 50 looks classy. Plus, it's not illegal.

even if you get pulled over and get a fix it ticket you do not have to peal it off. if you do not fix it in the time aloted it just becomes the same as a ticket and you pay the fine... It is just there way of trying to save you money of having to pay a ticket.

You can't pay a fix-it ticket away. You have to go show proof.

50 all around on the STi
50 front/35 rear on the Protege5. It isn't enough of a difference that you really notice it from outside the car, you can probably get away with it.

But 50 all around is still way better than nothing, imho.

I am 35% all around, like many others here. I think that if you want to be dark-ish tinted and don't want to be bothered by police for tint, that seems to work. I watch for it and I have never gotten so much as a second look ;)

I have 35% all the way around, I was just pulled over for it 2 weeks ago, I didnt know they had a " tint gauge". It came in at 39%. I didnt get a ticket the cop was cool, we sat and talked about a police chase he was in against a stolen Sti, he said the guy got a way in a matter a minute or two ( winter time). The tint place told me 50 in the front and what ever you want in the back and side windows is legal, the cop informed me 50% all the way around is what is legal. I dont under stand how the g rides with the privacy glass get away with it or maybe they dont. I have heard of people getting fix it tickets and just taking a picture of a similiar car with their plates on it to show the judge they fixed it.

I set up my appointment. Going in on Thursday to get it done. I like 35% but I'm going to stay legal at 50% to avoid being pulled over. It will still look classy.

Its called Limousine.... there is a statute posted on here regarding that law... plus when they come factory ie SUV's then they are under a different standard... we need those statutes as a sticky somewhere.. maybe make a whole new forum area that has statutes listed on tint laws, court laws, ticket laws etc etc... this stuff comes up every month almost... a section that people can click ond find info would serve the club well...

As i was being scolded, kind of, by the cop for illegal tint a Escalade drove by, a soccer mom escalade, and I asked how all those cars can get away with it, the cop told me its illegal as well. He said the law is to protect the officer, so he can see in the car when he walks up, not just because, so no matter what kind of car it is SUV or car its still dangerous to approach a car that he cant see into.
He said that is why its 50% all around, because someone in the back could have a gun pointed at him. He said he pulls people over all the time and there excuse is a factory tint job he said it doesnt matter.

well from what I have read that is BS... but I agree it is a safety thing for the officer... statutes are statutes.... it ends upo being up to the discretion of the officer.. thats why I have o pity for the upstarts and smartasses on here who say crap about cops or give them attitude, and then complain on here when they get a ticket... I have talked my way out of speeding ticket just by being funny and polite... and showing RESPECT
